Early years, adolescence

Anatoly Dmitrievich was born on October 31, 1922. His hometown is Vyazma (Smolensk region). Anatoly's father was an officer, his mother worked in an atelier. In 1930, the Papanovs moved to the capital. My father was fond of theater, participated in amateur performances. From him Anatoly took over his interest in theatrical art.

Papanov did not study very well at school. Then he began to work at the factory as a foundry worker, and in his free time he attended a theater studio. Later Anatoly passed auditions and got into the troupe of the Theater of Working Youth, where he quickly became a star.

During the war, Papanov was an artilleryman, commander of a platoon. In one of the heavy battles, Anatoly almost died. In 1942 he was discharged. Later Anatoly created a creative team, they performed in hospitals in front of wounded soldiers.

Returning to Moscow, Papanov decided to enter GITIS. He was immediately enrolled in the 2nd year. Anatoly finished his studies in 1946.

Creative career

Papanov received job offers from the Moscow Art Theater, the Maly Theater, but left for Lithuania with his young wife. There he began to work in the drama theater of the city of Klaipeda.

In 1948, the actor was offered to work in the troupe of the Theater of Satire, and the couple returned to the capital. Papanov managed to play the main role only in 1954, before that he had the roles of minor characters. Performances with his participation became successful.

In 1962, the artist was invited to the complex play "The House Where Hearts Break". The actors offered the viewers a TV version of the play. In 1987, Papanov tried himself as a director, staging the play "The Last".

The actor did not immediately start acting in films, he could not freely hold on to the set for a long time. His first work was a role in the film "Lenin in October", then there was an episode in the film "Foundling". Decades later came the comedies "Apple of Discord", "Come Tomorrow", where the talent of the actor is manifested.

In 1963, Papanov starred in the drama The Living and the Dead, playing a general. The actor became famous, he was awarded the award for Best Actor. Later there were filming in the movie "Children of Don Quixote". "Stitches-paths", "Native blood".

Papanov was excellent at both dramatic and comedic roles. The audience especially remembered his characters in the films "Beware of the Car", "12 Chairs", "Gentlemen of Fortune", "The Diamond Hand". Many of the actor's phrases became winged.

The actor died on August 5, 1987. The cause was a heart attack.

Karataeva Nadezhda became the wife of Anatoly Dmitrievich. They met when they studied at GITIS. The couple was friendly, they were together until the end of Papanov's life.
