Starting conditions

In enlightened Europe, for several centuries, women were assigned a difficult, but important role - she was supposed to be involved in raising children, preparing food for her family members and regularly attending church. Other affairs, primarily state affairs, were run and managed by men. Over time, relationships between men and women have become more diverse. Rosa Luxemburg made a significant contribution to the development of social relations and democratic institutions. Known as a theorist of Marxism and feminism.

The future revolutionary was born on March 5, 1871 in a wealthy Jewish family. The girl turned out to be the fifth child and suffered an injury - a chronic dislocation of the hip - at birth. Until the end of her days, Rosa limped noticeably. At that time, the parents lived in the town of Zamoć on the territory of what is now Poland, within the Russian Empire. A congenital ailment did not prevent the future feminist from receiving an excellent education. In the family circle, they spoke in three languages - German, Polish and a little in Russian.

Political activity

Already in the gymnasium, Rosa was carried away by the ideas of a just reorganization of society. It was for these hobbies that she came under the secret police surveillance. As a result, the girl went to Switzerland and entered the University of Zurich. Famous revolutionaries from Germany and Russia lived in this city at that time. After a short period of time, Luxembourg took a place in the group of leading theorists and practitioners of the revolutionary movement. Both Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Lev Davidovich Trotsky paid great attention to her theoretical works.

After the outbreak of World War I, Rosa was arrested several times for anti-war propaganda. On this basis, she had disagreements with her comrades in the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Luxembourg left the ranks of the Social Democrats and initiated the creation of the Communist Party of Germany. She had to not only write articles for newspapers, but also regularly speak at rallies. Not all men could withstand such loads.

Struggle and privacy

Contrary to popular belief, Rosa Luxemburg was not a feminist. However, throughout her life she demonstrated the way of behavior of a woman free from prejudices and conventions. Almost all the canons of feminism in force today are based on the style of her life. She had a doctorate in public law and a reputation as a subtle intellectual. Rosa loved and was well versed in contemporary art.

Rosa's personal life in the classical interpretation did not work out. Following her principles, she maintained open relationships with men, which caused a lot of criticism from conservative-minded women and men alike. Rosa Luxemburg died tragically in January 1919 during the suppression of revolutionary uprisings in Berlin.
