Alexey Larionov - Soviet party leader, secretary of the Yaroslavl and then Ryazan regional committee of the CPSU. He went down in history as a "hostage" of Khrushchev's competition with the ambitious slogan "Catch up and overtake America!" Failing to fulfill the plan to increase meat production, Larionov committed suicide.
Biography: early years
Alexey Nikolaevich Larionov was born on August 19, 1907 in the village of Gribanovka, near Arkhangelsk. His parents were poor peasants. At the age of 13, Larionov joined the ranks of the Komsomol, and then joined the CPSU. For 10 years, from a simple member, he became the secretary of the county committee.
Army service Larionov took place in the border troops. In 1931 he took an active part in suppressing the protests of peasants against collectivization in the Caucasus. For this he received a certificate and a valuable gift. A year later, Larionov took over the chair of the head of the Arkhangelsk branch of the party.
In 1933 he was sent to the Vinnitsa region, where he headed the newly created political department of the machine-tractor station (MTS). After working there for two years, Larionov entered the Institute of Red Professors, where the party trained ideological cadres.
Career
After the institute, Larionov was sent to the Yaroslavl region, where he soon became the first party secretary. During the war years, Aleksey Nikolayevich headed the Department of Defense Work. Largely thanks to him, the Yaroslavl residents uninterruptedly supplied the army with defense products and provisions.
In 1948, the party sent Larionov to the Ryazan region, which at that time was far behind other regions. For 10 years, Aleksey Nikolayevich made the region a leader: three universities and several dozen enterprises were opened, about 50 thousand houses were erected, almost half of the collective farms were electrified. In terms of milk yield, the Ryazan region ranked first in the Union.
The then Secretary General Nikita Khrushchev was impressed by these results. At that time, he tried to "catch up and overtake" the States at any cost. Khrushchev chose Ryazan Oblast for his next ambitious agricultural experiment to triple meat production in a year. Larionov could not refuse the general secretary, especially since he had awarded him the Order of Lenin and the gold medal of the Hero of Socialist Labor in advance. Then Alexey Nikolaevich did not know that he would pay for these awards with his own life.
In 1959, Ryazan residents fulfilled the meat plan. Here are just the coveted figures were achieved due to the machinations of Larionov, who did not want to lose face. The next year, the number of livestock in the Ryazan region fell by 70%. It was no longer possible to hide the real state of affairs from Khrushchev. Larionov shot himself a bullet right in the office. And his machination went down in history as a "Ryazan miracle". Despite the scam, thousands of residents attended Larionov's funeral.

Alexey Larionov was married. His wife's name was Alexandra. The family had two sons: Valery and Vladimir.
