Nancy Kerrigan is an American figure skater who was inducted into the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2004. Her love for sports began in early childhood, but her career was unstable. Nancy was haunted by both ups and downs. But, despite the failures, she stubbornly moved forward, trying to tame the ice.
Nancy Ann Kerrigan appeared in the family of Daniel and Brenda Kerrigan. The girl was the third child. Date of birth: October 13, 1969. Place of birth: Woburn, Massachusetts, USA.
The family of the future figure skater lived quite poorly. However, when Nancy became interested in figure skating, following her two older brothers on the ice (they were engaged in hockey), Daniel Kerrigan, in addition to his main job, got a job in the ice palace as an ice rink floater. This allowed little Nancy to train for free.
For the first time on skates Kerrigan got up at the age of six. And after three years she was able to win in children's figure skating competitions. She was predicted a successful future and a bright career in sports.
In childhood, Nancy Kerrinag trained with Teresa Martin. When the future famous figure skater turned 16, she began working with Denise Morrissey. And then her coaches were Mary and Evie Scotwold, who worked with Nancy until the moment she decided to leave the ice.
Figure skating career
Nancy Kerrigan took her first serious steps in figure skating at the age of 18. At that time, she was part of the junior team. In 1986, the skater took part in the US championship, but this performance turned out to be almost a failure for her. The audience and sports commentators noticed the young talent, but there was almost less positive feedback about her performance than serious criticism. As a result, Kerrigan took only 11th place.
In 1987, the young athlete took part in the junior championship again. A year of hard training was not in vain: this time Kerrigan was able to win 4th place. After this, she moved to the adult composition of single skaters.
1988 was another black stripe in Nancy's biography. Speaking among adult figure skaters, the girl took only 12th place in the competition. However, such a failure did not break Kerrigan, she continued to train stubbornly, trying to conquer the ice. As a result, she was sent from the USA to an ice tournament in Japan, where she was able to break into 5th place.
In 1989, the US Figure Skating Championships were held, which Kerrigan also did not miss. In this competition, she again did not rise above the fifth place. However, later, the young figure skater received bronze at the Winter Universiade, and then became a leader in competitions that took place in Hungary.
In 1991, the girl again received a bronze medal, but already at competitions in the states. The world championship, which took place in the same year, brought Nancy Kerrigan an honorable third place.
In 1992, the figure skater won the bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in Albertville. The world championship, held in the same season, brought Kerrigan silver.
The next year, the already famous athlete, with some difficulty, was able to win in the short program at the world figure skating championship. However, the free program only brought her an offensive 5th place.
In 1994, an unpleasant event happened in the life of the skater: she was attacked and injured in her knee. Because of her health, Kerrinag was unable to compete in the state championship, but she still went to the Winter Olympics as part of a team from America. There Nancy won in the short program, but took only second place in the free program.
After the Olympics, the skater turned her attention to sports competitions among professionals, and a little later began to actively participate in various ice performances. It became clear that there would be no further development of a sports career.
Other projects of the athlete
Nancy Kerrigan tried herself as an actress. For a short time she hosted a television show, and was also a sports commentator.
