In the late eighties, disco songs of the Italian Sabrina Salerno, as well as posters with her image, were very popular in the USSR. The song "Boys (Summertime Love)" is considered her main hit. At the same time, in general, during her career, Sabrina has released six studio albums.

The beginning of a singer's career and success in the Soviet Union

Sabrina Salerno was born in 1968 in Genoa. Since 1985, she has actively participated in beauty pageants. In 1986, Sabrina received the title of "Miss Liguria" (Liguria is a region in northern Italy), after which she was invited to TV - she became the host of the Italian Canale 5

In 1987, the girl released her first album - "Sabrina". One of the singles from him - "Boys (Summertime Love)" - brought the singer enormous popularity. This single peaked at number one on the French and Swiss charts, and in the UK it was able to reach number three. On top of that, a scandalous, very frank music video was shot for the song, where the main emphasis was on the excellent external data of the young singer.

In 1988, the entire second album went on sale. It was called "Super Sabrina" and was also quite warmly received by the public. Several songs from this album ("All Of Me", "My Chico" and "Like A Yo Yo") were video clips, and as a result, Sabrina's reputation as a sex symbol was even stronger.

In addition, in 1988 she was a special guest at the "International Song Festival in Sopot", which was televised in the USSR. Many Soviet viewers will remember this performance. Sabrina's short outfits, and the way she generally moved on stage - all this was then a novelty. The Italian star instantly became very famous in our country - records with her compositions were in enormous demand.

And in 1989 she performed at the Olympic in Moscow. 50,000 people bought tickets for her performance. In addition, largely thanks to Sabrina, denim shorts with unevenly cut edges became fashionable among Soviet girls of those years.

Musical creativity of Sabrina from 1991 to the present day

In 1991, Sabrina sang the song "Siamo donne" in tandem with another Italian singer Joe Scuillo. And, in fact, this was her first composition in Italian. With her, Sabrina took part in the San Remo Music Festival.

Sabrina's third studio audio album, Over the Pop, was released in 1991. Here, for the first time, the singer herself was able to engage in producing and writing some songs. It was clear that Sabrina had a desire to distance herself from the sex bomb image. And this ultimately led to disagreements with the management of the label (we are talking about the Casablanca Records label). As a result, the promotion of the album was suspended, and Sabrina retired from show business for four whole years.

Only in 1995, she again declared herself, releasing two new singles this year - "Rockawillie" and "Angel boy". These singles had some success in Italy and Scandinavia (but still it was not comparable to the success of the early songs).

In 1996 Sabrina created her own record label and released an album entirely in Italian "Maschio dove sei". It is also worth noting that this album was the fruit of a collaboration between the singer and guitarist Massimo Riva. And the songs on it have become noticeably more mature than before.

In 1999, Sabrina's fifth studio album, A Flower's Broken, was released. But after that, the singer again practically disappeared from the public space - she stopped not only singing, but also being shown on television.

In fact, only in the second half of the 2000s did Sabrina return to concert activity. In November 2006, she performed in Russia at the "Disco 80s" concert by "Autoradio". And this, by the way, in itself is evidence that in the 21st century Sabrina is perceived in our country precisely as the star of perestroika times.

It is also known that in May 2008, Sabrina gave a concert at the Stade de France in Paris - this concert was attended by 45,000 people. In the fall of 2008, she took part with other stars of the eighties on the RFM Party 80 tour, which covered a number of French cities.

Also in 2008, she released the audio album "Erase / Rewind Official Remix". This album consisted of two discs, and on it the singer collected her best hits in a new sound.

Even now, when the performer is already over fifty, she remains a star for domestic music lovers, and in Russia there are still many people who want to see her performances (especially among those who liked Sabrina's work back in the 80s).

However, today concerts are not the main activity of Sabrina. At the moment, she also owns a chain of restaurants and produces her own clothing line.

Sabrina Salerno as an actress

Back in 1986, Sabrina starred in the film "Department Store". However, her first more or less noticeable role was the role of Mikela Sauli in the Italian comedy "All of us Italians are brothers", directed by Neri Parenti.

In 1996, Sabrina made her stage debut in the comedy I cavalieri della Tavola Rotonda (All the Knights of the Round Table). Here she played the femme fatale Morgan Le Fay. The audience received Sabrina's performance favorably on the whole, and therefore in 1998 she reappeared on the stage - this time in a comedy production called “Uomini sull'orlo di una crisi di nervi” (“Men on the verge of a nervous breakdown”).

In 1998, she joined the cast of the low-budget film Jolly Blue, and also took part in the sitcom Three Men and a Servant, which aired on the Italia 1 channel.

In 2001, Sabrina again tried herself as a theater actress - she played one of the roles in the musical "Emozioni", which generally received very good reviews from Italian critics.

Then there were several more appearances of Sabrina in the movies. In 2004, she starred in the independent film Colori and in 2006 in Film D. More recently, in 2019, Sabrina appeared in the comedy film Modalita aereo (Airplane Mode). However, it must be admitted that few people watched these films outside of Italy.

Personal life

Sabrina has always (not surprisingly) had a lot of fans. However, the singer first got married at a fairly late age - at thirty-six years old.

Enrico Monti, an influential producer and a very wealthy man, became her chosen one (he owns many factories and hotels). Moreover, before they officially became husband and wife, they had lived together in a civil marriage for about ten years.

In April 2004, Sabrina gave birth to her first child from Enrico Monti - a boy named Luca.
