John Mitchell is an American actor and director. He also writes screenplays. The audience knows him for his role in the musical "Hedwig and the Unfortunate Inch". Later he played in the film adaptation of this piece of music.
Biography and personal life
The full name of the actor is John Cameron Mitchell. He was born on April 21, 1963 in El Paso, Texas. John grew up in the family of a retired major general of the US Army. The actor's mother emigrated from Scotland. She worked as a teacher. Mitchell's childhood was spent on military bases. John was educated at a Catholic school. From the time of his apprenticeship, Mitchell became interested in theater.
In 1981, John entered Northwestern University. Upon graduation, he played in Broadway productions. In parallel, Mitchell received small roles in films and TV shows. During his acting career, John was nominated for a Drama Desk Theater Award and an Obie Award. At 22, Mitchell confessed to his family that he was gay. Early in his television career, John starred in an episode of ABC's After School Special, which ran from 1972 to 1997. Then he was invited to play the role of Calvin Fitch in the "American Theater".
