For two years in a row, evenings in honor of the outstanding Russian writer Sergei Dovlatov have been held in the Estonian capital. This festival is intended to tell as many people as possible about his work, and is a kind of bridge between Russian and Estonian cultures.
The Dovlatov Days literary festival, dedicated to the work of the great writer, his contemporaries and followers, was organized by the Estonian businessman Oliver Loode. The artistic director is Elena Saulskaya.
For the first time, the Dovlatov Days festival in Tallinn took place in 2011 as part of the Tallinn 2011 - European Capital of Culture event and was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the writer Sergei Dovlatov, who lived and worked in Estonia from 1972 to 1975. He loved this country, spoke and wrote about it with tenderness. The unprecedented public interest in this festival led to the decision to make it traditional.
A rich cultural program is presented within the framework of the festival. Thus, guests will be able to visit the exhibition “Sergei Dovlatov. From the Author”, which will be held in the National Library of Estonia. On it you can get acquainted with the letters, photographs and works of the author, created during his life journey from Leningrad to New York.
Several films dedicated to the life and work of this great writer will be shown. Among them are "Dovlatov and Surroundings", "Vertical City" directed by Irina Fedorova and a new Estonian film by director Roman Liberov "Written by Sergei Dovlatov".
In addition, the festival hosts premieres of performances and an evening in memory of the writer - "About Dovlatov in a friendly way", where interesting stories are told about Sergei Dovlatov by people who knew him. A round table is being held with the participation of Estonian and Russian journalists, where the work of the writer and his contemporaries is discussed, as well as a concert program with the participation of Russian groups.
One day an excursion to the Dovlatov places of Tallinn is organized. During it, you can meet colleagues and friends of the outstanding writer, many of whom have become heroes of his works. All of them must come to this festival.
