Svetlana Toma, one of the brightest Soviet actresses - People's Artist of Moldova, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation - played a variety of roles: a Spanish duenna, a strict business woman, a modest teacher. Svetlana Tom's ancestors are French, Hungarians, Austrians, Jews and Russians. However, most of all she was remembered by the audience in the image of the gypsy Rada - captivating, fiery, bright.
Svetlana Toma was born in 1947, in a Moldovan village. Her father was an agronomist, and her mother was an ideological communist, at the risk of engaging in underground activities. Svetlana spent all her childhood and early youth in the village, free. However, for the summer she was sent to her mother's sister, where everyone observed secular manners and lived the life of an aristocracy. For the freedom-loving girl, this was a great test.
At the same time, it brought her great benefit - she read a lot, knew how to behave in society, adopted the style and demeanor from the aunts.
After school, Svetlana entered law school, because she dreamed of becoming a lawyer.
Once in the life of a student, an unusual incident happened: right at the bus stop, director Emil Loteanu approached her and offered to star in his film. Svetlana did not hear this name, and refused, but Loteanu reached her house and met her parents, insisted on auditioning for the film.
Film career
Svetlana was only 17 years old when she starred in her first film, Red Glades. This was the beginning of working with Loteanu. At about the same time, she decided to change Fomichev's surname to the surname of her great-grandmother - Tom, with an emphasis on the last syllable.
The debut was successful, the beautiful actress was noticed, and other directors began to be invited to their films. She also starred with Emil Lotyanu - these were the brightest roles in her creative biography.
So ten years passed, and, finally, that finest hour came - Svetlana played the role of the gypsy Rada in the piercing love story of two beautiful and independent people "Tabor goes to heaven". The film was an incredible success - more than 100 countries bought the rights to show it. In this film, according to the majority of viewers, everything was ideally combined: the script based on the works of Gorky, the music of Yevgeny Doga, the film crew and the beautiful Carpathians as a scenery for a dramatic plot.
Among other things, in "Tabor …" the very first explicit scene was filmed - for a few seconds Svetlana Toma was shown naked. Later, the actress said that this was her most difficult role, and not only because of the frank scene.
In the last thirty years of the last century, Svetlana Andreevna starred a lot: these are the films "Pious Martha", "Anna Pavlova", "Wandering Stars" and many others. In the new century, she was also in demand and starred in films of various genres.
Now the actress is already over 70, but she continues to act, sometimes with her daughter and granddaughter - also actresses.
Personal life
Both in the cinema and in the personal life of the actress, the director Loteanu occupied an important place: their romance lasting ten years was stormy, difficult, and dramatic. Emil was a prominent man with a tough character, a favorite of women, and even the docile Svetlana could not get along with him.
In 1969, Toma decided to drastically change her life: she married actor Oleg Lachin. They had a daughter, Irina, and a year later Oleg died, and Svetlana was left alone with grief. And then Lotyanu helped her again.
The second husband of the actress is playwright Andrei Vishnevsky. Together they lived for only five years, there were no children in this marriage.
Svetlana Andreevna has a granddaughter Maria, also an actress. And her daughter Irina Lachina is known for the TV series "Lady Bum" and "Lady Boss".
In her years, Svetlana Andreevna Toma looks amazing - she goes in for sports, leads a healthy lifestyle and believes that the best is yet to come.
