James Gunn is a screenwriter, producer, director, actor and a bright and outrageous personality. After breaking his contract with Marvel Studios, Gunn moved to Warner Bros. and joined the work on the DC comics. His closest project for the DCEU is a reboot of Suicide Squad, which is due out in the summer of 2021.

James Francis Gunn was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. His date of birth is August 5, 1966, according to the horoscope of James Gunn - Leo.

The Gann family is big. In addition to James, the parents who were engaged in advocacy have six more children. Interesting fact: almost all of James Gunn's brothers and sisters have chosen creative professions for themselves. Among them are actors, screenwriters and writers.

The childhood and youth of the future famous filmmaker were spent both in St. Louis and in Manchester. From an early age, Gunn was fond of comics, perhaps, this ultimately left an imprint on the interest he was attracted by the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios and do movie comics. In addition to drunken reading stories about superheroes, young Gunn has always been fascinated by horror films. Among his favorite films are "Friday the 13th" and "Night of the Living Dead."

James Gunn received his basic education at St Joseph's School in Manchester. In 1984, he enrolled in college in his hometown, but at the same time, young James became very interested in music. Therefore, he did not have enough desire and patience to complete his education - he dropped out of college after a couple of years. For a short time Gunn was a member of The Icons, but he failed to achieve any full-fledged success on the music scene. Due to the fact that his passion for music did not bring the young Gann any normal income, he was forced to get a job as an orderly in one of the hospitals. In parallel with such pursuits, James became interested in drawing his own comics, gradually starting to do it to order for non-profit newspapers.

After some time of such a life, Gann nevertheless decided to try a second time to get higher education, although later, already being a famous art worker, James repeatedly stated that he wasted his time and energy on his studies. Gunn recovered from college and even earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Later he entered Columbia University, was there for a long time as a graduate student. As a result, he became a master of arts, receiving a diploma in 1995.

It is worth noting that the music that once captured the young Gunn never left his life. Much later, he wrote a number of soundtracks for popular films.

First attempt at cinema

There is one funny moment in the biography of James Gunn. As a child, he was already interested in films and how films are made.

Due to his passion for horror movies, James Gunn, at the age of 12, tried to shoot his own horror movie for the first time using his home camera. "Serious" shooting took place in the local forest, improvised means and things taken from home were used as props. Artificial blood was made from ketchup, and James took brothers and friends for all the main roles in his first - albeit playful, unprofessional - film.

The plot of this home movie revolved around the idea of the living dead. This was dictated by the fact that at that time low-budget horror films about zombies were actively released on the screens.

Creativity and career development of James Gunn

Intending to conquer Hollywood and become famous, young ambitious James Gunn decided to start his career as a screenwriter.

The first studio that Gann collaborated with was Troma Entertainment. For them, he created the script for the film Tromeo and Juliet. As part of this film, he also co-directed. The picture was released on large screens in 1996.

The next step in the development of Gann's career was the release of his personal superhero film, which had a comedic focus. The motion picture "Unusual" was released in 2000.

2002 was the year of Gunn's dizzying debut in Hollywood. It was during this time that he created the script for the successful Scooby Doo movie. Two years later, James Gunn wrote the plot for the second part of this film, and also became a screenwriter for the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

In 2004, Gunn tried himself as an actor, although he had already played supporting roles earlier. However, the film "Lolly Love" became for him not only a picture in which he played one of the characters, but also a project that Gann produced.

As a director, James Gunn initially tried his hand in 2006. Then he worked on the film "Slug". The picture later became, according to American critics, the best horror film with comedic elements. After such a success, Gann devoted himself for some time to work in the horror direction in cinema: he shot short horror films. And in 2008, the short series "Porn for the Whole Family" was released, which brought James Gunn even more popularity, making him extremely popular in the film industry.

Working with Marvel Studios and the scandalous departure at DCEU

In 2014, a film comic strip from Marvel Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy, was released on the big screens. The film was directed by James Gunn, and this work allowed Gunn's career to skyrocket.

After the success of the first part, the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy was filmed in 2017. On this film, Gunn worked with his brother, who served as the chief assistant director.

According to initial plans, James Gunn was supposed to continue to work on the "Guardians". According to rumors, the script for the third film and a lot of ideas were still at the time of the creation of the second part. However, in 2018, a scandal erupted over several old Twitter posts in which James Gunn allowed himself to be caustic and rude on provocative and painful topics.

Under pressure from Disney, Marvel Studios ultimately canceled their contract with Gunn due to the buzz in the press and intense discussion. Neither the fan petitions created, nor the statements of the actors who were supposed to be involved in the third part of "Guardians of the Galaxy" did not influence the opinions of the representatives of Marvel. James Gunn, despite his apologies, was forced to leave the studio and relinquish the rights to the third part of the movie comic strip.

As it became known, in January 2019, James Gunn signed a contract with Warner Bros., and now he is officially the screenwriter of the film "The Suicide Squad" ("Suicide squad"), while the director's chair will probably also be assigned to him. Gunn promises that the film, due out on August 6, 2021, will not be a sequel to the 2016 movie. He plans to create a new format, include new characters from DC comics, and recruit new actors for the lead roles. Presumably, only Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) will remain from the previous cast. It is likely that the author's stylization of Gann, which could be seen in projects from Marvel, will be reflected in the film for DCEU.

In 2014, Gunn was in a relationship with an American model named Melissa Stetten. Their union did not last long. And already in 2015, James Gunn announced a new romantic infatuation. Jennifer Holland became his chosen one.
