The series have been very popular in different countries of the world for many years. They bring great profits to creators and popularity to actors. But making a truly successful show isn't easy.
Instructions
Step 1
The world's most expensive and popular TV shows are currently filming in the United States. As a rule, the following scheme takes place. First, the production company comes up with an idea for the series, which is offered to the studio. If the studio likes the idea, it finances the series; the rights to the finished product also belong to it.
Step 2
As a rule, several seasons of the series are filmed, each of which has several episodes. The episode begins with a seed prologue that lasts from 30 seconds to five minutes. Its goal is to grab the viewer's attention so that he does not switch to another channel. After that, as a rule, there are credits, although they can be at the end. The prologue makes it clear what the episode will be about. If this is a detective series, then a crime is shown at the beginning, which will be investigated throughout the series. Its duration is usually up to 22 to 45 minutes.
Step 3
On average, it takes about eight days to prepare one episode and the same amount for filming. First, they make a pilot series, sometimes in several versions. In total, from 22 to 24 episodes are shot during the shooting season. A series can include four to five seasons, and especially popular series can have up to eight seasons or more. If ratings are low, filming ends at the end of the first season or earlier.
Step 4
The studio leases the series to TV channels for showing. As a rule, the channel reviews the pilot episode and, if approved, orders several more episodes. If the project has failed without gaining the required rating during the demonstration of several episodes, it will be removed from the air. Sometimes the series is given a chance - it is shown the whole season and then, having analyzed the size, constancy of the audience and the dynamics of its growth, they decide on its further showing. The channel makes its profit from showing advertisements during the breaks of the series. A successful project can be sold overseas to be shown on foreign channels, and this income can exceed the income from advertising.
Step 5
The success of the future series depends primarily on the screenwriter, who has a very high status in America. Often the screenwriter and producer are the same person. He is called a showrunner, and he performs various functions: he hires directors, conducts casting of actors, is responsible for the creative process and determines the plot, and often has a group of scriptwriters and producers under his command.
