David Bartka is an American actor and professional chef. He gets mostly episodic roles. He is known to the general public as the spouse of the popular actor Neil Patrick Harris, the star of the comedy series How I Met Your Mother.
Biography: early years
David Michael Burtka was born on May 29, 1975 in Dearborn, Michigan. He has Polish roots.
After graduating from high school, David continued his education at the University of Michigan in the Faculty of Fine Arts. In parallel, he attended acting classes at the famous Interlochen School of the Arts in Michigan. After graduation, David became a student at the William Esper Studio.
Career
Bartka got his first film role in 1999. He was then 24 years old. He appeared in an episode of the movie "24 Nights".
After his film debut, Bartka decided to change his occupation and entered the famous culinary college from France - Le Cordon Bleu. David studied at his American subsidiary located near Los Angeles. After graduation, he worked as a chef for a long time, and later founded his own food company Gourmet MD.
In 2002, Bartka returned to the world of cinema. He was still not offered the main roles. David played cameo roles in a number of films and TV series, including:

Personal life
David Bartka is openly gay. Since 2004, he has been in a relationship with actor Neil Patrick Harris. He met him during the filming of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, where he played the main role. The gay couple publicly spoke about their relationship only in 2006. A year later, they first appeared in public as a couple. This happened during the presentation of the Emmy awards.
Four years later, David and Neil had children. The surrogate mother gave birth to twins to them: the daughter of Harper Grace and the son of Gideon Scott.
David has two more children. They are also twins and were born thanks to a surrogate mother. These children were born when Bartka was living with producer Lane Yanger. He lived with him for 10 years.
In 2011, the state of New York, where David and Neil live, officially allowed same-sex unions. In the same year, the couple announced that they had been engaged for five years already. The wedding took place in Italy. Elton John himself spoke at the celebration.
In 2014, rumors spread that David and Neil were going to get divorced. However, the couple did not officially comment on these speculations. Since then, they have closed themselves off from the public and only occasionally delight fans with joint photos with grown-up twins. It also became known that the son is passionate about baseball, and the daughter is interested in gymnastics.
