Why did he end up fleeing the country and where is he hiding?
Biography
Ilan Shor is a Moldovan of Jewish origin. The future entrepreneur and politician of Moldova was born in the second largest city in Israel, Tel Aviv, in early March 1987. According to some sources, his parents were born in Moldova, but in the 70s of the last century they were forcibly resettled to Israel, in accordance with their nationality. When the boy was 2 years old, the family got the opportunity to live in Moldova and immediately returned there.
Soon after the move, Ilan's father opened two of his own businesses at once - a Duty-Free chain of stores and a trading company specializing in the sale of goods of famous brands ShorHolding. From an early age, the son was interested in his father's business, otherwise he gladly attracted him, gave instructions, took him with him to business meetings and negotiations.
Ilan Shor started his own business at the age of 15, of course, not without the help of his father. Dad helped him open a business in the sale of mobile communication devices, then a printing house. On his 16th birthday, the young man received a gorgeous gift - the post of head of his father's advertising company.
Career
The beginning of a career for Ilan Shor was 2005 - his father died, the 18-year-old boy had to take over all the affairs of running his business, become a support for Ilona's mother and sister. And he did not disappoint his father - just 5 years later he was included in the list of the richest representatives of Moldova in the world market. Moreover, he significantly expanded his father's business, acquired significant stakes in the leading airport of the state and three large banks.
The assets of Ilan Shor also include a sports football club called Milsami. For 10 years, the entrepreneur has managed to replenish the FC team with new promising players, to bring him to champion places within his country. After the initiation of a criminal case against the businessman, he had to leave the management of the charges of the club.
Politics
In parallel with the development of the business inherited from his father, Ilan Shor tried to break into the political arena of his native state and gain a foothold there. And it cannot be said that he was unsuccessful in this endeavor.
Already while researching the evidence of his involvement in fraudulent banking schemes, Ilan Shor began to develop his political career. He won three significant victories in this direction at once:
- received the post of mayor (mayor) of the city of Orhei (May 2015),
- headed the social and political movement "Ravnopravie" (June 2016),
- received the mandate of a deputy in the parliamentary elections (2019).
But Ilan Shor did not succeed in becoming a politician, all efforts were in vain. During these years, a criminal case was unleashed, even a verdict was passed, according to which Ilan Shor was sentenced to 7.5 years.
Criminal prosecution
The case against Moldovan businessman Ilan Shor was initiated by the country's anti-corruption prosecutor's office. According to the data received by their representatives, the entrepreneur and aspiring politician “laundered” money, and as a result of the criminal transaction received 5 billion in national currency.
For several years, the case was “untwisted”, interrogations of the persons involved and the main person involved were carried out, in the end a verdict was passed, but the convicted person appealed.
For some time Ilan Shor was in a cell, then under house arrest, as a result, this restriction was removed from him, he even returned to his political career, but not for long.
In the summer of 2019, the prosecutor's office of Moldova received an arrest warrant for the deputy and businessman Ilan Shor, but by that time he had already managed to escape. Information was leaked to the media that, before his escape, he had withdrawn more than $ 1 billion from the state, but it was not possible to trace the entire path of the money. Investigators have suggested that Ilan Shor is in Israel.
Personal life
Ilan Shor met his future wife, singer Jasmine, in 2010. At that time, the woman was in a difficult situation - she was divorcing her first husband, trying to sue him for the right to raise a son. According to rumors, it was Shor who helped her solve most of the problems, paid for the "promotion" on the Russian and European pop-stage.
A year later, in 2011, the couple played a magnificent wedding. Relatives and friends said that the marriage is strong, the spouses are very kind to each other. Today, Jasmine and Ilan already have two common children - daughter Margot and son Miron. The man accepted the son of his wife from his first marriage as his own.
