Instructions
Step 1
The Sovremennik Theater is located in Moscow. Its history begins in 1956. The founders were a group of young actors. At that time, the exposure of the personality cult of Stalin took place. And it was at this time that a free creative group of like-minded people founded a new theater. Among the founders were Oleg Tabakov, Lilia Tolmacheva, Galina Volchek, Oleg Efremov and others. The first staging was Rozov's play "Forever Alive", which was later used for the film "The Cranes Are Flying". In 1966 the play "An Ordinary Story" was performed on the stage of the theater. In 1970, Efremov staged his last performance, Chekhov's The Seagull. In 1972 the artistic director of the theater was replaced by Galina Volchek.
Step 2
For the first five years, the theater did not have its own building. The actors used scenes from houses of culture, a branch of the Moscow Art Theater, and then the concert hall of the Sovetskaya Hotel. The first building of Sovremennik was the building on Mayakovsky Square, after the Variety Theater had moved out from there. Now the theater is located on Chistoprudny Boulevard. The building is made in the neoclassical style and has modern elements. It was originally built for the Colosseum cinema in 1912-1914. The auditorium is designed for 800 seats. In 2003, the Boulevard Ring complex was added to the main building, which is a cultural and business complex. The first two floors are occupied by the “Another Stage” of the theater with 200 seats.
Step 3
The nearest metro stations to the theater are Chistye Prudy, Turgenevskaya, Sretensky Boulevard. From any of these stations you need to go to Chistoprudny Boulevard. If you leave from Turgenevskaya, then you need an exit to Myasnitskaya Street. Then go through it, walk past the Chistye Prudy metro station, and you will come out onto the boulevard.
Step 4
If you leave the Sretensky Boulevard station, then you need to cross Myasnitskaya Street, walk past McDonald's and Chistye Prudy station. The Sovremennik Theater is located on the left side of Chistoprudny Boulevard, behind the Yaposha restaurant and the Boulevard Ring complex. There are ponds in front of the building.
Step 5
The theater can also be reached from the Kitay-Gorod station. In this case, you need an exit to Maroseyka. Any trolleybus will work for you. Drive to the Pokrovskie Vorota stop. Or you can walk. You need to go around the ponds on the boulevard on the right and walk a few minutes forward, past Makarenko Street. In front of you will be the building of the Sovremennik Theater. Have a nice evening!
