The amount of the state duty for issuing a foreign passport to a citizen of the Russian Federation depends on what type of document he wishes to receive.

State duty for a passport

The fact is that today a citizen of the Russian Federation who needs to obtain a passport can, at his choice, receive one of two types of documents: an ordinary passport, consisting of paper pages, or a new generation passport containing an electronic carrier of information. The first of them will be valid for 5 years, while the second will allow you to travel outside the Russian Federation without changing the document for 10 years.

However, a new passport will cost the owner a little more than a regular document. Thus, Article 333.28 of the current Tax Code of the Russian Federation, registered in the code of laws of our countries under number 117-FZ of August 5, 2000, establishes that the state fee for issuing a standard passport is 1000 rubles, while for issuing a passport with an electronic carrier you will have to pay already 2500 rubles.

Payment of state duty

Issuing a foreign passport to a citizen is a public service that must be paid for. However, when contacting the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service that issues these documents, it should be borne in mind that it is impossible to pay the required amount directly at the FMS department: the money must be transferred to the treasury account of this organization by non-cash method.

Accordingly, in order to make the necessary payment, you must contact a banking institution. Any bank licensed to conduct banking operations in the Russian Federation can make the required payment. Therefore, you can independently choose a financial institution that is convenient for you. However, it should be borne in mind that in some cases the bank, if it is spelled out in its tariff policy, may charge a commission for making such a payment, while in other banking institutions the payment of the state duty is not subject to any commissions.

In order to make such a payment, you need to contact the bank, having with you the account details of the territorial branch of the FMS. The details for the payment of the state duty can be found on the official website of the territorial branch of the FMS to which you plan to apply.
