Before going to the nearest police station, you should make sure that your passport is not lost at home, among your personal belongings. Try to remember where and when you last used your passport - by restoring the chain of events, you may be able to find the lost document. But what if the searches were unsuccessful, and your passport was indeed stolen or irretrievably lost?

  1. 1. Immediately go to the local branch of the FMS (Office of the Federal Migration Service). In most cases, the FMS department is located on the territory of the district police department. Do not be afraid to seek help - by contacting the FMS department in a timely manner, you will be able to prevent further problems from arising.
  2. It will be necessary to fill out the application form correctly, try to indicate in it all the facts that relate to the loss of your passport in as much detail as possible. If the passport was exactly lost, and not stolen, you should not make indirect hints in the statement that the theft could have been committed. If you believe that your passport has been stolen, you will also have to register a statement in the duty station, on the basis of which a criminal case will be initiated into the theft.
  3. After the statement about the loss or theft of your passport is written and accepted by the employees of the relevant authorities, you can contact the passport office at your place of residence in order to restore your passport. At the passport office, you will be required to provide copies of several documents: birth certificates, marriage certificates, birth certificates of children and military ID. They may also require other documents confirming your identity, on the basis of which you can restore your passport.
  4. At the passport office, you will need to write an application and submit four photographs. The receipt issued to you for payment of the passport renewal fee should be paid at any of the Sberbank branches.
  5. After that, you need to return to the department of the FMS and register all the documents collected and handed out, after which you will be assigned a date for a return visit. Usually, within ten days, the applicant is issued a new passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation.
