Kiki Bertens is a famous tennis player from the Netherlands. Semi-finalist of the French Open, multiple participant in the Grand Slam tournament. Winner of 9 WTA singles titles.
Biography
The future athlete was born in December 1991 in the small Dutch city of Vateringen. Kiki is the oldest of three sisters in the Dora and Rob Bertens family and the only one who chose a sports career. From an early age, the girl was very active and loved sports activities. Wateringen is a rural province and there is little choice of sports clubs. Kiki liked to play tennis, and therefore, at the age of six, she first appeared on the court under the strict guidance of an experienced mentor.
As a teenager, Kiki developed her own, rather aggressive style of play, which often baffled her opponents, which allowed the tennis player to earn the coveted points.
Professional career
On a professional level, the girl first appeared on the court when she was only seventeen. The debut took place in 2009 at the ITF series, the second most important competition in professional women's tennis. During the year, she won two singles tournaments, and also entered into her asset at once five awards in doubles. The following year added two victories in singles tournaments and one in doubles to the aspiring tennis player's piggy bank.
In early 2011, Bertens was invited to the Netherlands national team for the first time, in which she took part in the qualifying matches for the Federation Cup. In the summer of the same year, Kiki got her first chance to play at the WTA tournament, which was held in the Dutch 's-Hertogenbosch. Unfortunately, the debut at the highest level turned out to be extremely unsuccessful, the girl flew out of the tournament in the very first match, losing to a more experienced athlete from Italy.
In 2012, Bertens achieved a truly high result and declared herself to the whole world. At the annual WTA tournament in Morroco, she won the first title at this level. During the tournament, she beat such famous athletes as Simona Halep and Garbinier Mugurus. In the final, she met with Laura Pous-Tio and dealt with her without any problems in two sets.
In total, Kiki has won nine WTA singles titles throughout her career and in 2018 ranked ninth in the world rankings, the highest position in Bertens' career. Today, the tennis player continues to do what she loves. In 2019, she took part in the US Open, where she was eliminated in the third round. She also competed in the Porshe Tennis Grand Prix. In this competition, Kiki reached the semi-final stage, where, in a bitter struggle, she lost to the more experienced athlete Petra Kvitova.
Personal life
Kiki's lifelong love is her permanent sparring partner Remco de Røyke. At the end of November 2019, the lovers became husband and wife, which they enthusiastically reported on their pages on social networks, posting photos of the wedding and the first, very happy days of family life.
