Amos Oz is an Israeli writer and journalist. He wrote the novels Elsewhere, My Michael, Faithful Rest and Knowing a Woman. Amos also wrote stories, essays and travel notes.
Biography and personal life
Amos Oz was born on May 4, 1939 in Jerusalem. The writer died at the age of 79. Oz's death occurred on December 28, 2018 in Tel Aviv. His father was Yehuda-Arie Klausner, an Israeli literary critic and literary critic originally from Odessa. The ancestors of the writers were immigrants from Eastern Europe. Oz served in the army on the Syrian border. Then he worked in the field of agriculture. Oz began writing at the age of 20.
Amos was educated at the Hebrew University. He studied philosophy and literature. In 1969 and 1970, the writer was a student at Oxford University. Then he was a teacher there. Oz also taught at the Hebrew University and at one of the Colorado colleges. Amos has two children - Daniel and Gaul.
Literary creativity
In 1965 his collection of short stories "Where the jackals howl" was published. He later released the novel Elsewhere. In 1967 he wrote the book "My Michael", which later could be read by Russian-speaking readers. After 4 years, Oz's work "Until Death" was published. Also in the 1970s, he wrote the books Other People, Touch the Water, Touch the Wind, The Mountain of Evil Council, Somhi, In the bright blue light.
In the 1980s, Amos wrote the novel Faithful Rest, the notes Here and There in Israel and The Slopes of Lebanon, the books Black Box and Knowing a Woman. In the next decade, the prose writer's bibliography was supplemented by such works as "The Third Situation", "The Silence of Heaven: Agnon Reflects on God", "Don't Say Night", "All Hopes: Reflections on Israel's Identity." He later wrote an autobiography, A Tale of Love and Darkness, which was released in English and Russian. Also, readers are familiar with other books by an Israeli author, for example, "In fact, there are two wars", "On the slopes of a volcano", "Photos from the life of the village."
Contribution to cinema
In 1974, the film Michael Sheli was released based on his novel. The film is directed by Dan Walman. The main roles were played by Irit Alter, Ruth Farhi, Oded Kotler and Efrat Lavi. The drama was presented at the Chicago International Film Festival. In 1994, the film Kufsa Sh'hora was filmed based on the writer's book. The director and one of the scriptwriters of the melodrama is Eud Levanon. In 2007, the film "Little Traitor" was released based on the work of the prose writer. In the lead roles, you can see such actors as Ido Port, Alfred Molina, Gilya Stern and Rami Huberger. The drama has been presented at the following events: Haifa Film Festival, Paris Israeli Film Festival, AFI Dallas Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Munich Film Festival, Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival.
In 2015, viewers were able to see the film "A Tale of Love and Darkness", which is based on the book of Amos. The historical detective melodrama was nominated for a Golden Camera at the Cannes Film Festival for Natalie Portman's directorial debut. The war drama was seen by the guests of the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Jewish Film Festival, the Beijing International Film Festival, the Moscow Jewish Film Festival and the Nashville Film Festival. The painting "Jerusalem, I love you" based on the work of Oz is being prepared for release.
