The Olympic Games have been held for several millennia. The names of the champions are forever recorded in the annals of history. Yuri Sedykh is our contemporary. Multiple Olympic winner in hammer throw.
Starting conditions
Long-term practice shows that almost all boys and girls start to go in for sports. After a short period of time, the vast majority leave these occupations. Only those who have shown certain abilities continue to train. Yuri Georgievich Sedykh has achieved outstanding results. Suffice it to say that the world record that he set back in 1986 has not yet been broken. Then he threw a hammer at a distance of 86 meters 74 centimeters. It is interesting to note that our athletes did not demand and did not receive fabulous fees for their achievements.
Astute experts never tire of reminding you that in sports, as in science or art, geniuses are not born every day. The future world champion was born on June 11, 1955 in an ordinary Soviet family. Parents at that time lived in the famous city of Novocherkassk, Rostov region. My father worked at a plant for the production of agricultural machinery. Mother worked as a kindergarten teacher. In those days, the state took care of the younger generation. Children from an early age were attracted to physical education and sports.
Not far from the house there was a stadium with an equipped track and field arena. Yuri really liked the song that "it's early in the morning, I'm not too lazy to do gymnastics." And "I pour myself with tap water every day." Like all the boys on the street, he spent all his free time at the stadium. Played soccer. I ran short and long distances. And even jumped high. When the boy was twelve years old, a trainer who brought up hammer throwers drew attention to him. At the first meeting, the teenager was surprised to learn that a metal blank, with a tied cable, is called a hammer.
The educator of the future champions was an experienced person and thought creatively. At first glance, he determined that Yura Sedykh possesses the necessary inclinations for this particular sport. And his predictions were fully justified. Systematic training began. Trips to training camps and competitions of different levels. After graduating from school, Yuri decided to get a specialized education at the Kiev Institute of Physical Education. It was on the basis of this educational institution that the all-Union school of hammer throwers developed. From the first days of study, gray-haired people, as they say, found themselves in their native environment.
Achievements and awards
To achieve high results in any field of activity, it is necessary to act according to a specific algorithm and clearly follow the time-tested instructions. This rule is fully applicable to a sports career. Yuri Sedykh demonstrated a rare sense of purpose and efficiency. For all the time he performed at various competitions, he never violated the sports regime. When the national athletics team was preparing for a trip to the Olympic Games in Montreal, his candidacy was unanimously approved by the entire coaching council.
At the start of the competition, journalists and bookmakers did not pay attention to the young and unknown hammer thrower from the USSR. But when Yuri was awarded the gold medal, the flurry of enthusiasm and applause was like an “Atlantic typhoon”. Two seasons later, in 1978, Sedykh won the European Championship. Over the next ten years, the Soviet athlete did not know defeat. At the 1980 Olympics, he "took" gold. In 1984, the Soviet team did not go to the Los Angeles Olympics. It's a shame, but bearable. At the 88 Olympics in Seoul, Yuri took second place.
By the beginning of the 90s, Sedykh had amassed an impressive collection of medals won at competitions of various ranks. It is interesting to note that it was only in 1991 that he became world champion. By this time, destructive processes were already taking place in the country, and many famous athletes were left to their own devices. Yuri Sedykh also found himself in a difficult situation. Livelihoods were sorely lacking. The decision came unexpectedly and in a timely manner. The multiple champion was invited to work in France. Yuri agreed to compete for the athletics club on a commercial basis.
Recognition and privacy
After some time, a hammer thrower from Russia was involved in coaching and teaching work. The accumulated experience and the saved energy allowed Yuri to take a worthy place among sports specialists and experts in a short time. For several years Sedykh taught physical education at a well-known university. People around were surprised to notice that the number of students who are fond of sports has increased markedly. At the same time, academic performance has increased. Sedykh prefers not to comment on the results of this kind.
The personal life of the record holder was formed on the second attempt. In his first marriage with Lyudmila Kondratyeva, who was involved in sprint running, Yuri lived for almost five years. They had a daughter, Oksana. Unfortunately, the social unit has disintegrated. The second time Sedykh married Natalia Lisovskaya, a shot pusher. The spouses registered the marriage shortly before leaving abroad. All important decisions husband and wife have made and continue to make, together. In 1993, they had a daughter named Alexia. In 2010, the girl played for the French national team in hammer throw and became a champion at the Youth Olympics. Parents brought up a worthy change.
