Natalia Poklonskaya is of Ukrainian origin: she was born in 1980 in the village of Mikhailovka. She grew up in a simple family and after school received a higher legal education. Poklonskaya's responsibilities included overseeing law enforcement agencies fighting criminal groups.

In 2014, Poklonskaya openly opposed the Ukrainian government, supporting a social protest in Kiev. The woman was denied dismissal of her own free will, so she had to take an extra leave and go to her mother in Simferopol. By this time, Crimea found itself in the very center of the division of influences between Russia and Ukraine. Poklonskaya offered her assistance to local law enforcement agencies, and almost immediately the Council of Ministers appointed her as the prosecutor of Crimea.

Natalia vacated her position in 2016, deciding to link her future life with politics, and was elected a State Duma deputy from the United Russia party. She also took over as chairman of the commission for monitoring the reliability of data on income and personal property submitted annually by deputies.
