Serhiy Taruta is a Ukrainian politician and businessman who has amassed a multi-million dollar fortune. The future Ukrainian politician and entrepreneur was born on July 23, 1955 in the village. Grape, Stalin (now Donetsk) region, Ukrainian SSR.

Taruta received his education at the Zhdanov Metallurgical Institute, from which he graduated from the Mechanical and Metallurgical Faculty in 1979. Sergey Alekseevich also has the Donetsk State Academy of Management under his belt: in 1999 he graduated from the Faculty of Management there. The second specialty of Taruta is the manager of foreign economic activity.

In 1979, Taruta entered the Azovstal plant, subsequently climbing the career ladder to the head of the foreign economic relations department.

In 1995 Taruta became one of the co-founders of Azovintex, a foreign trade company. In December of the same year, he took over as executive director of the large corporation Industrial Union of Donbass (ISD). Taruta currently chairs the board of directors of this corporation. At the same time, he is the president of FC Metallurg from Donetsk.

Career in politics

From 1998 to 2006, Serhiy Taruta was a deputy of the Donetsk Regional Council, a member of the commission on land and natural resources. At the same time, the businessman was a member of the Council of Entrepreneurs under the government of Ukraine.

Former presidents of Ukraine - Yushchenko and Yanukovych - considered Taruta's candidacy for the post of prime minister and deputy prime minister of the country. However, none of these appointments eventually materialized.

In March 2014, Taruta was appointed governor of the Donetsk region. Sergei Alekseevich announced his first task to cancel the political decisions taken before by the regional council. In the summer of 2014, Mariupol was returned to the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On behalf of P. Poroshenko, the administrative center of the Donetsk region was moved to this city.

In October 2014, by decree of the President of Ukraine, Taruta was relieved of his duties as head of the Donetsk regional administration. One of the reasons for the resignation is the sharp criticism from Taruta to the central government and directly to the president of the country.

Since 2017, Taruta has become the founder and leader of the Osnova party.

In 2019, Taruta was going to participate in the presidential elections in Ukraine. But then he withdrew his candidacy in favor of Y. Tymoshenko.
