The church is sometimes compared to a ship sailing to the Kingdom of Heaven among the stormy waters of the sea of life. The path from darkness to light runs from west to east. That is why, in most cases, Orthodox churches with their altar face towards the east. What else needs to be considered when building a temple?
Instructions
Step 1
The construction of any temple begins with the blessing of the ruling bishop of the local diocese. The church is not built for beauty, it is called to meet the needs of the church community. If there is no church community in a city, town or other locality, it must be created and registered with federal authorities. For registration to take place, the community must include at least ten people.
Step 2
So, the community is registered, the blessing of the bishop has been received. Now you should contact the local authorities in order for the site to be allocated for the construction of the church. When contacting the authorities, an official letter from the bishop can help. It is necessary to determine in advance what kind of temple will be built, how many people it will be designed for, what the style of construction will be, in whose honor the main altar will be consecrated.
Step 3
When obtaining a building permit, you will need to collect a package of documents, including a cadastral passport, which indicates the type of land use - for the construction of the temple.
Step 4
The design of the temple should be entrusted to the architectural and design workshop. When choosing a workshop, find out if it has a government license. The approval of the project will be required in several instances, so it is desirable that the workshop has contact with the organizations that will carry out the project expertise. The largest design workshops often have a building license, in which case the project and construction can be entrusted to the same organization, which is very convenient.
Step 5
The structure of the temple is symbolic, since it partly represents the image of the Kingdom of Heaven. The altar is the main part of the Orthodox church. In the center of the altar is the altar, the most sacred site of the temple.
Step 6
The middle part of the temple is separated from the altar by an iconostasis. The iconostasis is a kind of window between the earthly world and the Higher World. The iconostasis has three doors. Middle - Royal Doors. The right gate is located on the south side, the left one on the north. Male parishioners can enter the altar through them. But only a priest or deacon can enter through the Royal Doors during the service.
Step 7
From the iconostasis to the inside of the temple there is an elevation, in the center of which there is a pulpit in the form of a semicircular ledge. The sacrament of Communion is performed on the pulpit.
Step 8
The number of domes in a temple may vary. With one altar in the middle of the church, one dome is made. If there are several altars with thrones, then a separate dome is made over the middle part of each of them.
Step 9
The temple can consist of two parts - the altar and the temple itself. Often built in the temple and the vestibule. Today, a porch is a small room right at the entrance to the church. From the street, the entrance to the vestibule is made in the form of a porch. This is a platform in front of the entrance to the church, in front of which there are several steps.
Step 10
These are the main points that should be considered by the community when it has decided to build a temple.
