The wedding is one of the seven sacraments of the Orthodox Church, which sanctifies family ties. During the ceremony, the newlyweds swear in faithful love until death and in their readiness to protect and protect each other in all troubles and misfortunes, to support in all endeavors. Since the sacrament is held in the church building, special requirements are imposed on the clothing of both the newlyweds and their guests.
Instructions
Step 1
Guests' clothing. For women, the rules are, in fact, the same as always: the skirt is no higher than the stake, a headdress. Dresses with a deep neckline, open shoulders and back are a bad option. If possible, cover all exposed areas of the body with a shawl or cape. There is no particular color preference, but do not choose a dress that matches the color of the bride's dress.
Men, on the other hand, should take off their hats as a sign of respect for the temple and those who live in it. Prefer long pants over shorts - no need to show off your legs in church.
Step 2
Jeans are acceptable but undesirable for both sexes; also exclude short sleeves and shoes with open toes, especially without socks and tights (sandals, shoes). The clothes of people who come to church should be chaste and non-defiant. Closing the body demonstrates this chastity.
Step 3
Newlywed clothes. The basic requirements are the same: a bride with a covered head, in a skirt or dress no higher than the knees, without a deep neckline, open back and arms; groom in trousers, bare-headed, in a long-sleeved shirt.
Step 4
Since about the 17th century, it has been customary in Russia for the groom to be in a black or dark gray suit, and the bride in white. However, both of these colors in traditional Slavic symbolism mean mourning (the spouses die for a carefree bachelor life and are born as a single family; however, the color of the bride's dress was originally associated with the European queen, who remarried after the death of her first husband). Nevertheless, this choice is not fundamental. In an older tradition, the bride's flowers were festive red, delicate blue. The dress was decorated with beads, pearls, other precious stones, and embroidery. The groom also often wore red and black clothes. The main requirement for clothing was the absence of a call, that is, maximum body cover.
