Samson Samsonov received the title of People's Artist of the country before the collapse of the great power. The future Soviet actor and director was born on February 23, 1921. There is also other information, according to which Samsonov was born a month later. The birthplace of Samson Iosifovich is the town of Novozybkov, Gomel province, now it is the Bryansk region. Joseph and Genya Samsonov had five children: Samuel, Samson, Berta, Asya and Seraphim.
When Samson was about a year old, his family moved to the capital of the country. They settled in Maryina Roshcha. My father worked as a manager. He died of typhoid in the war. Mom passed away in 1934. By that time, the parents were already living separately. Samson was raised by his sisters and brother.
The teachers of the capital's art pedagogical school, where he received his first lessons in skills, also played a role in the formation of Samson Iosifovich's personality. Then Samsonov continued his education at VGIK, the faculty of directing from which he graduated in 1949. T. Makarova and S. Gerasimov became his teachers. The experience of communicating with the masters of cinema had an invaluable influence on the formation of a young man's personality and on the formation of his professional qualities.

By 1939, Samsonov became an actor at Mosfilm. But he is invited only for episodic filming. While working on the film "Young Guard" Samson Iosifovich got the opportunity to work as an assistant director.
After the war, the experience of directing came in handy for Samsonov at the Theater. Vakhtangov and at the Theater-Studio of the Film Actor. Then he became the director of the famous Mosfilm film studio.
At all times, Samson Iosifovich was attracted by the screen adaptations of works of the classical direction like a magnet. That is why his directorial debut was the picture "The Jumping Girl" based on the work of Chekhov. The test of strength turned out to be successful: Samsonov received an award from the Venice festival for that work.
Samsonov married three times. From his first marriage, with Emilia Borts, he had a daughter, Zhenya. The second wife of Samson Iosifovich is the actress Margarita Volodina, who gave her husband a daughter Masha. Samsonov also has a daughter, Katya, who was born in his last marriage. The director's sister, Berta Iosifovna, successfully worked for many years in the financial department of the Ministry of the Oil Industry of the Soviet Union.
The talented director finished his earthly journey on the last day of August 2002. Before that, Samsonov was sick a lot. He was at that time over eighty years old. A year and a half before his death, People's Artist of the USSR Samsonov received a commendation from the head of state. So the country once again noted the director's merits in the national cinema.
