The future singer was born in the village of Truseni (Moldavia) on August 23, 1949. In addition to Masha, the family had five more girls. Performing talent manifested itself in Maria early. Parents took her with them more than once on holidays and celebrations. Masha climbed onto a chair and sang with inspiration for her fellow villagers. In the village they called her that: "the girl who sings." Later, Maria began performing in amateur performances.

One of the amateur concerts was attended by a delegation from Russia, who arrived to hold the show of masters of arts of the republic. The delegation was headed by Dmitry Shostakovich. The skill of the young performer amazed the master. He said directly to the head of the Ministry of Culture of Moldova, who happened to be nearby: "She should definitely learn music!"

Teacher Efrem Vyshkautsan, who was fluent in violin, began to study with Maria. To begin with, he had to look for the "girl who sings": he did not know her name and surname. Masha was placed in a boarding school where gifted children studied. She studied violin, but she never stopped singing. Maria has performed with orchestras more than once.

Hearing Codreanu's singing, she was invited to cooperate by A. Bronevitsky, who headed the Leningrad musical group "Druzhba". Maria stepped onto the professional stage. She more than once happened to replace Edita Piekha on tour. Then Codreanu worked in the band of Ben Bencianov, then in the jazz orchestra of I. Weinstein and with the trio of S. Kagan.

In the city on the Neva, Maria Petrovna graduated from a music school. She studied classical and pop vocal.
