Twinkle Khanna is an Indian writer, columnist, film producer, former film actress and interior designer. Her latest book, Pajamas Forgive (2018) made her the top-selling female writer in India in 2018. Her previous two books, Mrs. Ridiculous Bones and The Legend of Lakshmi Prasada, have been declared bestsellers.
The future actress and writer was born in 1974 in Mumbai, in the family of actors Dimpla Kapadia and Raesh Khanna. She has a younger sister, Rinke, who also became an actress.
Actor career
Twinkle made her film debut in Rajkumar Santoshi's "Rainy Season" (1995). The famous Bobby Deol became her shooting partner. The whole team made an excellent romantic comedy that earned the love and recognition of the audience. In its release year, "Rainy Season" became one of the highest grossing films in India. And Khanna won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her work.
The following year, she starred in Raj Kanwar's action movie Soul and Raj Kanwar's drama Your Heart Gone Mad, opposite Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan, respectively. The painting "Soul" was also very popular, and brought great profits to the creators and actors. And the second film was much weaker, and did not have such a success.
However, critics wrote about Twinkle that she was flawless in both films. She was called different from other Indian actresses because of her original manner of acting and also because in each film she was very different.
Another successful film for the actress was the melodrama "When You Fall in Love" directed by Deepak Sarin (1998). Moreover, her partner was a real macho, the star of Indian films, Salman Khan. However, it is not only about looks - he is an excellent artist. They say about such people that when you are on the same stage with such an actor, it is impossible to play badly. Probably the combination of Twinkle and Salman's talent brought such a result: the film was received very warmly by both viewers and critics.
After this success in the filmography of the actress, several films appeared that did not have such success, but still they had their own audience.
In one interview, Twinkle said that she was always lucky with filming partners, and she recalls with pleasure the joint work with Akshay Kumar, Daggubati Venkatesh, Saif Ali Khan. And in the film Fatal Holiday (2000) she starred with two brothers-actors: Faisal Khan and Aamir Khan. The story of a girl who decided to avenge her brother's death touched the hearts of many viewers.
The last film in her career was the melodramatic comedy "For Love" (2001). After this film, she stopped acting, stating that she was no longer interested in the career of an actress, and she plans to do something else.
The best film in the portfolio of the actress is considered the picture "Badshah" (1999). The comedy with elements of action and crime has pleased audiences in many countries. Despite the fact that the main character Badshah at the very beginning of the film finds himself in an unpleasant situation, the plot does not burden it, because the resourceful guy turns around all his enemies. The director managed to assemble a truly stellar cast on the set: actors Rakhi Guzlar, Shah Rukh Khan, Twinkle Khanna, Amrish Puri, Johnny Lever, Prem Chopra and others.
Designer career
After Twinkle left the film industry, great changes took place in her biography. She was involved in various matters: she helped her father in his political career, was a member of the panel of judges in Femina Miss India. And in February 2001 she made her theater debut in the play "Feroz Khan".
Khanna then decided to pursue interior design and in 2002 opened her own store in Mumbai called White Window. She made this project in collaboration with her longtime friend Gurlein Manchanda. Since then, this salon has served many distinguished clients, and once it received the international design award Elle Decor.
Twinkle's business as a designer was growing well, and soon she opened another salon in another area of Mumbai. And all this happened despite the fact that she has no education as a designer. But there is taste and style that she has from birth. True, for two years Khanna took personal lessons from celebrities in the design business, and this further convinced her that she wanted to do this.
As proof that Twinkle has taken place as a designer, commissions from famous people. For example, she has done interiors for the houses of Rani Mukherjee, the house of Remma Sen and Tabu, the apartment of Bandra Kareena Kapoor, as well as the design studio Poonam Bajaj. At the request of a client, she asked the company to make a gold toilet seat.
Khanna also designed the ORB Supertech project in Noida and another residential area plan in Pune. These were very expensive projects - they were talking about millions of pounds sterling.
The former actress is also a mentor to the Interior Academy of the International Institute of Fashion Design and co-founder of Grazing Goat Pictures.
However, Twinkle did not forget the movie either, and when she was offered to become a co-producer, she willingly agreed. Now her filmography includes production projects: The King of Deception (2010), Thank You (2011), The Gambler (2012) and Padman (2018).
Twinkle Khanna is also a popular columnist for the Daily News and Analyst and the Times of India. And her books are sold in huge editions not only in India.
Personal life
In 2001, Twinkle became the wife of actor Akshay Kumar. They met while the actress was at a photo shoot for Filmfare magazine. The actors met for some time, and then decided to start a family. Many people associate Twinkle's departure from cinema with this fact. The couple have a son, Aarav, and a daughter, Nitara.
