Sooner or later, in the life of every person, an interest in their roots arises, a desire to get acquainted with the history of a kind, to learn something about their ancestors. People begin to take an interest in the past, collect family archives, study their ancestry. Unfortunately, in our country the tradition of preserving heirlooms and archives has been lost for many decades. Therefore, now a lot of information has to be collected literally bit by bit in the archives.

Instructions

Step 1

In the absence of reliable sources and surviving family documents, it is not so easy to draw up a pedigree. This work requires a long time, a lot of effort and some knowledge. But its result pays off handsomely. After all, what could be better than a fully collected history of your family, which can be inherited by children?

Step 2

It is best to arrange a pedigree in the form of a generic book, which contains not only a genealogical tree, but also family photographs, detailed information about the life of ancestors, documents of the family archive. In addition, such a book can be a wonderful gift for any family anniversary: for many years it will be kept in the family and supplemented with all the new information. Such a gift never gets old and never gets boring.

Step 3

It is preferable to start drawing up a generic book by drawing up a generic (genealogical) tree, which will contain brief information about all known family members and distant relatives. The development of such a scheme is a rather difficult task and it may make sense at this stage to seek help from specialists. Today in Russia, a fairly large number of companies offer their services for the compilation of pedigrees and the search for lost information. If there is an intention to do this on your own, then initially you will have to tune in to long-term painstaking work.

Step 4

To compile a family tree, you first need information about all known relatives. In particular, their full names, dates of birth, death and marriage. All this information is entered into the genealogical chart. To facilitate the work and more thorough design of the family tree, it is more convenient to use existing computer programs. Several types of genealogical software are available on the Internet today, and are distributed free of charge.

Step 5

It is important to remember that when registering a pedigree, you cannot rely only on oral information provided by relatives. All important dates and key events in life must be supported by documents. This is primarily necessary in order to subsequently avoid possible confusion.

Step 6

If the family has not preserved the necessary documents, as is most often the case, then the relevant information can be obtained from the state archives or the registry office. At present, in Russia, anyone can gain access to work in the archive by presenting only a passport and a corresponding application.

Step 7

The family tree is drawn up in the form of a graphical scheme, which includes a number of levels corresponding to individual generations. Each element of the diagram represents a member of the genus and is accompanied by an indication of the dates of birth and death. Family ties (marriages, divorces, childbirth) are displayed as colored solid or dashed lines. Traditionally, male representatives of the genus are depicted in the form of squares, and women in the form of circles. This graphical division greatly facilitates the perception. The genealogical scheme always starts with a single common ancestor, from which an extensive network of his descendants is built. In this case, it does not matter at all whether the common ancestor is located at the top or bottom of the diagram, both options are allowed. However, it is visually more convenient to perceive the diagram from top to bottom; therefore, it is better to place the main ancestor in the upper part of the picture.
