Georgy was born in April 1881 in the Moscow province, in the village of Venyukovo. In total, the family had 9 children.

When George was 12 years old, his father, who worked as an engraver, died. So that the family could somehow feed themselves, the mother decided to send her son to work at a factory in Moscow. Here he was identified as a laborer. The boy's shift lasted 12-14 hours.

Grigory Dmitrievich loved art from childhood. He decided to work and get an art education at the School of Painting, Architecture and Sculpture.

The young man was lucky. Famous artists such as Serov, Repin, Kasatkin, Korovin became his teachers. Alekseev, while still a student of this institution, begins to participate in traveling exhibitions. The boy also studied to be a sculptor. In 1914 he received a decent education, a desired profession.

One of the first works of GD Alekseev was the painting "Burners". Here he captured the scene of the once popular game in the villages. The work was so successful that at the exhibition Alekseev was awarded a silver medal for it and was awarded a trip to Western Europe.

Georgy Dmitrievich is the son of his era, and revolutionary events could not pass him by. In 1907 he finished work on the statue of the founder of scientific communism - Karl Marx. The authorities liked this sculpture so much that then several copies of this work were installed in different cities and in Moscow.

Alekseev made several more statues in which he captured the work of builders, textile workers, metalworkers. He also has a sculpture called "The Militia".

Career

The talented specialist was in great demand. When Georgy was still a student, he illustrated magazines and books in a printing house. There were also wonderful publications for children.

And its high relief, reflecting the union of peasants and workers, was installed on the building of the City Duma, which now belongs to the Historical Museum. And the high relief has survived to this day.

When the sculptor decided to immortalize the leader of the Russian revolution in stone, he tried to make sketches, but realized that it was necessary to personally meet with Lenin. During the conversation, the artist made 17 sketches.

Soon Georgy Alekseev created a statue of the head of the Soviet Republic. It was called The Summoning Leader. From this successfully executed original, many similar works were created, these statues were installed in many cities.

Even Alekseev, through his work, actively encouraged people to go in for sports and physical education. In the statue "At the Start", he portrayed a girl-athlete who was getting ready for the race. And in the sculpture "Football Player" we see a brave young man doing this sport. On one of his physical culture compositions, Georgy Dmitrievich recreated guys and girls with balls.

During the war years, Alekseev drew numerous posters, then was engaged in teaching activities. The famous sculptor passed away in the summer of 1951.
