Tom Cochrane is a famous Canadian rock musician. Many people know him as a member and leader of the popular Red Rider group. The peak of his creative career came in the 80s. He is inducted into the Music Hall of Fame of Canada.
Biography: early years
Thomas William Cochrane was born on May 14, 1953 in the town of Lynn Lake, which is located near Hudson Bay. My father was a pilot, my mother was a housewife. When Thomas was four years old, the family moved to the neighboring province of Ontario, where they changed several cities of residence.
Cochrane became interested in music at school age. At the age of 11, he sold his beloved railroad, and with the proceeds he bought his first guitar. She was simple, but Thomas treasured her very much.
After school, he continued his studies at the Martingrove Collegiate Institute. In parallel, Cochrane arranged performances in bars throughout Canada.
Creation
In the mid-70s, Thomas moved to the States, where he settled in Los Angeles. There he continued to perform in bars and clubs. Soon after, Cochrane wrote the theme song for the film Pleasure Is My Business. Despite this, he did not have a stable income in the States. For this reason, Thomas made the decision to return to Canada.
At home, he settled in Toronto, where he decided to make a living as a cab. In parallel, Cochrane gave concerts in various eateries and performed on a cruise ship.
Soon, Thomas was invited to perform at El Mocambo Tavern, Toronto's famous bar. There he was noticed by musicians from the Red Rider group. In 1978 he joined this team. Cochrane became not only the frontman of the group, but also the author of its songs.
A year later, Red Rider released an album. Thanks to the songs White Hot and Don't Fight It, he quickly went gold. As part of the group, Thomas recorded several records, a collection of hits and a box set. He did a lot for the team. In 1986, his name and surname were added to the name of the group: Tom Cochrane & Red Rider.
Five years later, Cochrane went on a solo voyage. He made his debut with the song Life is a Highway, which was a worldwide success. His first solo album sold six million copies.
In 2002, Cochrane decided to return to Red Rider. Fans took the news with enthusiasm.
For his great contribution to culture, Cochrane was inducted into the Music Hall of Fame of Canada. He also has a named star on the local Walk of Fame.
Personal life
Cochrane is married. His wife's name is Kathleen. She actively helps her husband in organizing concerts. In marriage, two daughters are born: Evanne and Cody. They are already adults and live separately.
Tom and his wife own a cottage in Oakville. There they are in the warm season. The couple also own a home in Texas. They move there for the winter. In his spare time, Cochrane loves to play golf and watch hockey like a true Canadian.
