Childhood and early creativity

Lauri Ylönen was born on April 23, 1979 in Helsinki into a middle-class family. From the age of five he studied piano, and at the age of 14 he began to master the guitar and drums.

At the age of fifteen, Lauri formed a rock band with his classmates Eero Heinonen, Pauli Rantasalmi and Janne Heiskanen. At first this band was called Trashmosh, then Anttila, and only then Rasmus.

Until 1998, the guys released three audio albums - "Peep", "Playboys" and "Hell of a Tester".

Dinasty Association and Yulönen's tattoos

In 1999, Dinasty was formed, which included three Finnish rock bands - Rasmus, Killer and Kwan. The members of these groups communicated with each other and collaborated in a creative way. By the way, Lauri has a tattoo on her arm in the form of a beautiful inscription "Dynasty".

It is worth mentioning one more tattoo of the musician, located on the left shoulder. It is an image of a bird with the face of his favorite singer Bjork. The singer himself considers this tattoo to be his reliable talisman.

Lauri Yulönen and The Rasmus in the 21st century

In 2001, the name of the band in which Yulönen sang changed from Rasmus to The Rasmus. The article was added to stop the confusion of the rock quartet with DJ and electronic musician Rasmus Gardell.

In the same 2001, the 4th disc of The Rasmus "Into" was released. Thanks to him, the number of fans of the group in Scandinavia has increased significantly.

In addition, in 2001, Lauri Ylönen took part in the recording of the song "All I Want" by the already mentioned rock band Killer.

In 2003, The Rasmus released Dead Letters, which brought Yulönen and the other members of the Finnish quartet truly worldwide fame. The main hit of the album was the composition "In The Shadows" (as a result, four videos were shot for it!). The album itself has long held a leading position in the charts in Europe and South America. In the wake of popularity, the group went on a large-scale world tour called the "Dead Letters Tour".

In 2004, another important event happened in Lauri's career - he recorded two compositions together with the group Apocalyptica (we are talking about the compositions "Life Burns" and "Bittersweet").

The next disc of The Rasmus - "Hide From The Sun" - went on sale in 2005 and was also positively received by critics and music lovers in many countries.

In 2007, Ylönen recorded a new album with the band in the States - "Black Roses". It was released in 2008 and had, in contrast to the previous works of the collective, an emphatically lighter and more "pop" soundtrack.

Also in 2008, Ylönen created the soundtrack for the Finnish film Blackout (without The Rasmus). And in 2011, the musician's debut solo album entitled "New World" was released. Two years later, in 2013, Yulönen recorded and published a number of solo compositions - “My Favorite Drug”, “She's A Bomb”, “My House”.

In 2017, the next (so far the last) studio album The Rasmus "Dark Matters" was released, and Lauri, as always, performed on it as a vocalist and author of lyrics for songs. In this audio album, a noticeable bias towards electronic sound was made, which caused mixed reactions from the listeners.

Personal life

Since 2004, Lauri has had a relationship with Finnish vocalist and actress Paula Vesala. In the spring of 2008, Paula gave birth to a son from Lauri, who was named Julius.

Yulonen and Vesala officially formalized their relationship in 2014, but, unfortunately, this marriage did not last long - already in September 2016, the couple announced that they were getting divorced.

At the end of 2016, the musician met a new love - model Katriina Mikkola. A year later, in December 2017, Yulönen again became a dad - the couple had a boy, and he was given the name Oliver.
