Step 1
On the territory of Russia, regardless of the citizenship of persons who wish to marry, the form and procedure for its conclusion are determined and regulated by Russian law, namely the Family Code of the Russian Federation. To get married, submit an application with your future spouse to any civil registry office (registry office).

Please attach the required documents to your application. Among them must be passports or other documents proving your identity. If either of you was previously in another marriage, attach papers confirming its termination. These can be certificates of divorce or death of a former spouse. A person who is not a citizen of Russia must be provided with these documents by the embassy of his country or other competent body of the state of which he is a citizen. In the same place, he must be issued a certificate (certificate) confirming the absence of obstacles to marriage. A foreign citizen will also need a certificate from the place of residence, which is issued by the magistrate at the place of registration or the church parish. All documents submitted to the registry office must be translated into Russian, and their authenticity must also be confirmed and certified.

If there are no obstacles to marriage, then it will be registered in your personal presence, as a rule, after a month from the date of submission of documents. Possible obstacles to its conclusion, the legislation of the Russian Federation provides for both Russian citizens and foreigners. Keep in mind that if you have any of these, you may be denied marriage registration. The list of obstacles includes: - close family relations, relations between adopted children and adoptive parents; - relations between a recognized incapacitated groom or bride; - relations between a bride and a groom who are in another registered official marriage. Be sure to check the latter circumstance in case of marriage with a foreigner, in whose home country polygamy is permitted. Such polygamous marriages are allowed in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Syria. Please note that a polygamous marriage will not be officially recognized in the Russian Federation if you nevertheless decide to conclude it in a country that does not take this circumstance into account.
