Viktor Medvedchuk has been a significant figure in Ukraine for many years. And although he has recently been far from making important decisions, the likelihood of his return to big politics is high.
Childhood and youth
Victor was born in 1954 in the small village of Pochet, Krasnoyarsk Territory. In the 60s, the family moved to the Kiev region.
The young man received his first money in 1971, when after school he got a job as a freight forwarder of a railway post office. The next year, the young man got a job as a freelance police officer. A dark spot in the biography of his father, who in the 40s was accused of nationalist activities, prevented him from entering the higher police school. Victor was determined to get an education in the field of law and entered the law faculty of Kiev University.
Carier start
After graduation, Medvedchuk entered the Moscow Bar Association. He had a chance to defend the famous Ukrainian dissidents Vasyl Stus and Yuri Lytvyn. Medvedchuk's work was notable for passivity, both of the accused received maximum sentences and died in custody.
Since 1989, Viktor Vladimirovich headed the legal advice office of the Shevchenko district of Kiev. In his subordination were 40 people. In 1990, his colleagues elected Medvedchuk the chairman of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine and approved his membership in the Union Board of Lawyers.
90s
During the August events of 1991, the lawyer did not share the ideas of the State Emergency Committee. During this period, Medvedchuk entered the informal association "Kiev Seven". Its members were believed to be associated with Presidents Kravchuk and Kuchma.
Since 1994, Viktor Vladimirovich headed the Higher Qualification Commission of Lawyers at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. As part of the Coordination Committee under the President of the country, he proved himself to be an ardent fighter against corruption and crime. Medvedchuk dealt with the problems of employers and commodity producers, as well as issues of judicial and legal reform. During this period, he defended his Ph. D. and then doctoral dissertations.
His political interests coincided with the SDPU (u) program. Soon the lawyer became a member of the Central Committee of the party, and then took the post of deputy head of the Ukrainian Social Democrats. In 1997, members of the same party elected him as their representative in the Verkhovna Rada, and the next year Medvedchuk became the leader of the SDPU (u). From 1998 to 2000, Viktor Vladimirovich served as Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament. In the presidential elections in 1999, he headed the headquarters of Leonid Kuchma.
2000s
For 3 years, starting from 2002, Viktor Vladimirovich headed the Presidential Administration. During this period, Medvedchuk's influence in political circles grew significantly. He initiated the reform of the country's transition to parliamentary-presidential rule. After Kuchma's resignation, the ex-head of the presidential administration dealt with issues of heraldry, awards and civil service. In 2006, Medvedchuk returned to the Verkhovna Rada from the opposition bloc “Not so!”.
"Ukrainian choice"
In 2012, a new political union called "Ukrainian Choice" appeared on the country's political arena, headed by Medvedchuk. The party considered its main task to be the implementation of democratic processes in the state, the rapprochement of the authorities and the people. The solution to these tasks was seen in joining the Customs Union, improving the federal structure and a new economic strategy of the state. However, the organization found many opponents, the offices of the "Ukrainian Choice" were attacked and arson, especially in the western part of the country.
How does he live today
In 2014, Viktor Vladimirovich mediated negotiations between representatives of the OSCE, the Ukrainian authorities and the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR. The commission under his leadership contributed to the exchange of prisoners of war and the cessation of hostilities in the south of the country.
In 2018, the politician joined the opposition party For Life. In the elections of the sixth head of state, the name of Madvedchuk is missing from the lists of candidates. Although he has experience of participating in the pre-election race, and he did not declare his intention to leave the political arena. After the alignment of the Ukrainian political forces, it will become clear whether Viktor Vladimirovich will return to public politics. It remains to wait quite a bit.
Personal life
The famous politician was married three times. His first wife was the daughter of a Moscow lawyer Marina Lebedeva. The second wife Natalya Gavrilyuk gave Victor a daughter. Today Irina is an accomplished person and lives in Switzerland. The politician's new great love was crowned with a wedding with Oksana Marchenko. The TV presenter enjoys great love of Ukrainian viewers. The couple had a daughter, Daria, and Russian President Vladimir Putin became the girl's godfather.
In rare moments of rest, the politician prefers playing football and weightlifting, therefore he is in excellent sports form. He is unpretentious in food and life, and considers the sea coast to be the best vacation spot.
There are no ideals for Viktor Medvedchuk. All that he has achieved in life is his personal merit, and for the fact that it did not work, he only blames himself.
