Russia has given the world many outstanding devotees of piety, known throughout the world for their virtuous life. One of the most revered Russian saints is the holy Reverend Seraphim of Sarov - the great miracle worker and prayer book for humanity.
Every Russian Orthodox believer especially honors the memory of the great saint of God - the Monk Seraphim of Sarov. It is no coincidence that he is called a miracle worker, because both during his lifetime and after death, the Monk Father Seraphim performed and continues to perform many miracles in the bestowal of health and help in various everyday needs and troubles.
Prokhor Mashnin (as the saint was called in the world) was born in Kursk in 1754. The days of the earthly life of the great righteous man ended at the age of 78 on January 2 (old style), 1833. From the life of the Monk Seraphim is known his special love for people, the elder addressed each person with the words: "My joy!" One of the greatest deeds of Seraphim of Sarov is prayer on stone for his native Fatherland for a thousand days and nights. Saint Reverend Seraphim is known as the founder of the largest nunnery in Russia, called Diveyevo. The Monk Seraphim himself called this monastery the Women's Lavra. There now rest the relics of the great prayer book.
The Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of the Monk Seraphim of Sarov the wonderworker twice a year. On January 15, according to the new style, the entire fullness of the ROC solemnly honors the day of the repose of the great monk. On this day, solemn services are held in all churches consecrated in honor of the elder. For the convent in Diveyevo, this day is a special holiday.
There is also a second date for the veneration of the Monk Seraphim: August 1st according to the new style. On this day in 1903, the elder was canonized with the participation of the hierarchs of the Church and Emperor Nicholas II. On the same day, the relics of the great saint of God were also found. On the day of the canonization of the Monk Seraphim of Sarov, great celebrations take place in Diveyevo. Not only thousands of people from different countries, but also hundreds of bishops of the Church, headed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, flock to the monastery to worship the relics of the holy saint of God.
