Petr Naumovich Fomenko made a great contribution to the national cinema. He did not pass by the theatrical stage either. As the artistic director of the Moscow theater "Workshop P. Fomenko", he staged many performances in theaters in Moscow, neighboring countries and Europe and gained worldwide fame.
Petr Fomenko graduated from several educational institutions. Among them are the Music and Pedagogical Institute named after Gnesins, M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanova in violin. And from the Moscow Art Theater School he was expelled in his third year "for hooliganism."
Then he was admitted to the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V. I. Lenin to the Faculty of Philology, which Peter graduated in absentia in 1955. Here the future director became friends with Yu. I. Vizbor, Yu. Ch. Kim, Yu. I. Kovalem. He organized "skits", rehearsed "The Stone Guest" by A. S. Pushkin. It was at that time that the first productions of Fomenko's performances took place.
In parallel with the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute, the young man studied at the directing department of GITIS on the course of N. M. Gorchakov. The play "New Mystery-Buff", staged by Peter immediately after receiving a diploma at the Theater. Lensovet in 1969, became a legend. Work was not allowed until the premiere. He never found a permanent job in Moscow. Then Fomenko decided to go to Tbilisi, where he got a job at the theater. Griboyedov. In this institution he worked for 2 seasons. And later he moved to Leningrad. In 1977 he was approved as the chief director at the Leningrad Comedy Theater. From here he quit after a conflict with the leadership and returned to Moscow. In 1989 he was admitted to the Theater named after E. B. Vakhtangov.
The director's productions were a worldwide success. Works regularly became laureates of various awards (named after Stanislavsky, "Crystal Turandot", "Golden Mask"). In 1993, Fomenko was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia, nominated for the title of laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, awarded the Triumph Prize and them. Tovstonogov. In 2000 he got a job at the Paris Conservatory. In 2003 he retired and settled again in Moscow. The director died on August 9, 2012 and was buried at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.
