Petr Fomenko graduated from several educational institutions. Among them are the Music and Pedagogical Institute named after Gnesins, M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanova in violin. And from the Moscow Art Theater School he was expelled in his third year "for hooliganism."

Then he was admitted to the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V. I. Lenin to the Faculty of Philology, which Peter graduated in absentia in 1955. In parallel with the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute, the young man studied at the directing department of GITIS on the course of N. M. Gorchakov.
