Stefanos Tsitsipas is a talented Greek tennis player. The first Greek who managed to get into the top 100, and then into the top ten of the world tennis players ranking. He was the first racket of the world among juniors.
Biography
The future tennis player was born in August 1998 on the twelfth in the Greek capital Athens. The boy was born into the family of Soviet tennis player Yulia Salnikova and Greek Apostolos Tsitsipas. Stefanos decided to follow in the footsteps of the famous mother and took up tennis. The talented guy quickly got in good shape and began to win one after another at regional competitions.
In 2014 he took part in an international tournament for the first time. At the Orange bowl, which is held annually in the USA, he reached the final, but lost to American athlete Stefan Kozlov. The following year, he reached the final again and lost to Miomir Ketsmanovic, a tennis player from Serbia.
Career
On a professional level, Stefanos made his debut in 2016. The following year, he first entered the Grand Slam level, qualifying for Roland Garos and Wimbledon, but in both tournaments he retired in the very first matches.
In 2018, he managed to reach the fourth round of the competition at Wimbledon. Having passed three stages quite easily, he lost in one-eighth to the ambitious John Isner. August of the same year brought several sensational victories to Tsitsipas. At the tournament in Toronto, which was held under the auspices of the ATP Masters, he managed to beat Kevin Anderson, Alexander Zverev and the legendary Serb Novak Djokovic. Having reached the final of the tournament, the athlete missed a victory in two sets in a match with Rafael Nadal. Despite this, for the first time, he made his way into the top twenty athletes according to the Association of Tennis Professionals, taking the sixteenth place in the ranking.
In the same year, he took part in the US Open, but dropped out of the fight in the second round, losing the match to Russian athlete Daniil Medvedev.
Today Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the most talented and promising tennis players in the world. His career has not yet shone with high-profile victories and results, but as of April 2019, he is already ranked eighth in the ATP ranking. At the Australian open tournament, he reached the semifinals, where, in a bitter struggle, he lost to a more eminent rival - Rafael Nadal.
Personal life
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the grandson of the legendary Soviet footballer Sergei Salnikov. He is a football fan and is a fan of the Greek Olympiacos. Thanks to his Soviet roots, he is equally fluent in Greek and Russian, and is also fluent in English.
With regard to romance, Stefanos is a real mystery. He is not officially married. Either he is so passionate about sports and career that he does not yet seek to start a relationship, or he keeps the name of his beloved secret.
