Biography
The future athlete was born in July 1977 on the sixth in the capital of Belarus, Minsk. He has a younger brother named Peter. Parents of Peter and Maxim were professional athletes, his father played in the highest volleyball league of the USSR, and his mother was a swimmer. From an early age, Maxim dreamed of following in the footsteps of his parents and playing sports at the highest level. In the late 80s - early 90s, a fairly new sport for Soviet people began to spread in the countries of the former USSR - tennis. The parents decided to enroll the boy in the tennis section.
Professional career
Maxim's childhood dream came true in 1994. When he was only sixteen years old, he made his professional sports debut and immediately at the highest level. He became a member of the Belarus national team at the Davis Cup.
Two years later, he played at the main tournament of the ATP tour, which took place in the Dutch city of 's Hertogenbosch (Rosmalen tournament). In the same year, in the middle of summer, the guy won his first doubles challenge at a competition in British Manchester. At the end of the year, he won another challenge in the American city of Amarillo again in doubles.
His results on the singles court left much to be desired, and Mirny decided to concentrate entirely on the creation of doubles performances. His skills and abilities came in handy in the national team of the country, where he remained a real leader for a long time.
In early 1997, he first made his way to the Grand Slam. Maxim made his debut at the Australian Open. Already in February, he won the first serious title paired with Kevin Ulet. Their pair made it to the finals and won the tournament in Shanghai. In the summer of 1998, he won the most prestigious tennis trophy - Grand Slam.
At the tournament in Wimbledon, Mirny entered the doubles with the beginning tennis player Serena Williams, who at that time was only sixteen. An unexpected duet showed an unexpected result, they won all the matches and snatched the coveted reward from their rivals. In the fall of the same year, they participated in the US open tournament, where they again won the grand prix.
The career of Maxim Mirny lasted until 2018, in which he announced the end of his performances on the court. During this time, he won many prestigious trophies, including becoming an Olympic champion in 2012 at the London competition.
Personal life
The famous tennis player is married to the Belarusian fashion model Ksenia Rubchenya. Their wedding took place in 2004 and during this time they had four children. After completing his career as a player, Mirny went into business, in the USA he opened a pizzeria, and in his native Minsk a professional tennis center. Also, since the summer of 2019, he has been the ambassador of one well-known bookmaker company.
