This man was responsible for the most important value of the Russian Empire - the health of the heirs to the throne. His hard work and dedication to his work surprised many courtiers.
The contribution of this man to medicine is underestimated. Working in a specific environment, he proposed techniques that amazed even courtiers experienced in all kinds of eccentricities. If we discard all the conventions of the historical era and the position of our hero, then his adherence to advanced views on the issue of preserving children's health will be revealed.
early years
There is very little documentary information about the childhood of Ivan Korovin. It is known that his parent's name was Paul, and he was a priest. For what services to the sovereign and the Fatherland the holy husband was awarded the hereditary nobility, where he lived and in which church the rules of service, history is silent. It is only known that the mysterious master had three sons. The one who will be discussed further was born in 1843.
Obviously, the Korovin family did not live in poverty. The boy studied at the gymnasium, in 1865 he entered the Medico-Surgical Academy. This educational institution in the capital appeared by order of Paul I. Famous doctors and scientists of their time gave lectures there. The Academy graduated highly qualified specialists who were gladly accepted in the army. Our graduate in 1870 easily got a job as a junior doctor at the Nikolaev hospital, which was under the jurisdiction of the Military Department, and opened a private practice.
Specialization
The young physician was attracted by the prospect of career growth. He took up writing his doctoral dissertation. As a research topic, Ivan Pavlovich chose the effect that starchy food has on the health of babies. After 4 years, the work was completed and presented to the court of the academy professors. It received high marks, and its author - the scientific degree of Doctor of Medicine.
The choice of such an unusual subject of scientific research was dictated by no desire to shock colleagues. A new department of pediatrics was created at the Medical-Surgical Academy. They needed specialists who were passionate about their work. Ivan Korovin became one of them. In 1876, Professor Nikolai Bystrov, who headed a new direction of work, invited our hero to be his assistant. He agreed. Now he conducted research activities, worked in a children's clinic and lectured to students. After work, the doctor hurried home, where his wife and son were waiting for him.
Healer for the fruits of secret passion
The news of the pediatrician reached the ear of the emperor. Alexander II was just in a difficult situation - his favorite Ekaterina Dolgorukova gave him four children. The sovereign did not hide the details of his personal life from his lawful wife, but if his illegitimate children enjoyed all the privileges of lawful ones, a scandal would have occurred. A caring daddy invited Ivan Korovin to take the unofficial position of a doctor with his second family. After the death of the empress and the wedding with his former mistress, the monarch was in no hurry to legalize the position at the court of a man who knew too much.
Alexander II died at the hands of a terrorist, and Alexander III took his place. The change of the ruler went to the advantage of the career of a pediatric doctor. The upbringing and education did not allow the new ruler to refuse the services of a highly qualified specialist only because he was privy to the hard-hitting secrets of his father. He promoted Korovin to the life of pediatricians. This title was established especially for him. Alexander III passed on the doctor to his son Nicholas II.
Life-Medic of the heirs to the throne
A year after the coronation, Nicholas II became a father for the first time. Since 1895, Ivan Pavlovich again had to return to caring for the children of the first person of the state. It must be said that the physician did not leave his post at the children's hospital, hospital and academy. He had the strength and desire to help hundreds of patients. There were practically no problems with the eldest royal daughters. The girls grew up healthy.
In the summer of 1904, the august surname rejoiced at the birth of its long-awaited son Alexei. The courtiers were indignant at how meticulous Ivan Korovin was about the choice of a nurse for the baby. In September of the same year, the doctor was urgently summoned to the baby. The newborn's belly button was bleeding, the doctor spent a lot of time to cope with this trouble. He immediately met with Alyosha's parent and, after several questions about the biography and diseases of her relatives, made a terrible diagnosis. The heir to the throne suffered from hemophilia.
The last patient
A heavy burden fell on the shoulders of the middle-aged physician - he tried to postpone the moment of death of his patient. The unhappy Tsarevich felt worse and worse every year. At first, only injuries were dangerous, then rupture of blood vessels began to occur from the simplest movements. Blood accumulated in the joints and prevented the boy from moving freely. Along with a certified specialist, Alexei was treated by the charlatan Grigory Rasputin. Oral folk art attributed to the latter the gift of a healer.
Ivan Korovin came to the conclusion that orthopedic splints can help the boy. These devices only made life difficult for the little patient. In 1907 the old man admitted his mistake and resigned. A year later, he suffered an apoplectic stroke. In August 1908 Ivan Pavlovich died.
