American comedian, most famous for his role as the hilarious detective Shaggy Rogers in the legendary teenage film about the adventures of Scooby-Doo and his friends.
Biography
Born 1970 in Lansing, Michigan. He spent part of his childhood and teenage years in Tuslin, California. The only son in the family. Studied at Foothill High School.
After graduating from high school, along with his friend Paul Rood, he entered the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena. During his studies, he attended all available auditions, trying to get a role.
Career
First appeared on the screen in 1991 in the science fiction series "Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College". While participating in the filming, he took the pseudonym Matthew Lin, later he worked under his own name.
In 1994 he starred in the crime comedy "Serial Mom", in which he played the son of the main character. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a huge hit with audiences.
In 1995, he starred in the teenage drama Animal Room. Lillard played a teenager humiliating his classmate.
In the same year he played a supporting role in the drama "Mad Love". The film received positive reviews from critics and a good box office.
In 1996 he played one of the main roles in the horror film "Scream". The film, humorously playing on the cliches of popular horror films, became incredibly successful. But critics gave the film a low rating, with an average of three stars. Despite this, the film received more than six awards, including the MTV Movie Award. In 1997, "Scream 2" was released, in which Lillard played a cameo role.
In 2002, the adventure comedy "Scooby-Doo" was released, in which Lillard played one of the main roles, Shaggy Rogers, a frivolous detective. The film was a huge box office success. Two years later, he starred in the sequel to the adventures of Shaggy and Scooby "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed".
In 2004, he played one of the main fields in the adventure comedy Without a Paddle. Lillard's character, along with two friends, participated in a treasure hunt. The film was an excellent box office success and devastating critical reviews. Some of them stated that "a few jokes don't make a movie a comedy."
In 2012 he starred in the sports drama "Trouble with the Curve". The film was not a success with the public, critics positively noted only the play of Clint Eastwood. In the same year he took part in one of the episodes of the police drama "Criminal Minds".
In 2010, he began to voice a series of feature-length cartoons about Scooby-Doo, more than 15 films were released in total.
In 2017, he starred in the famous mystical series "Twin Peaks" as William Hastings.
Personal life
In 2000 he married Heather Helm. The couple had three children. Lillard lives with his family in Los Angeles.
