Russian rock originated in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century. Initially, however, the few rock bands were underground. In the 80s, a full-fledged, albeit unspoken, rock movement has already formed in the largest Russian cities. Only in the 90s did Russian rock finally come out of the underground. During this time, many bright, distinctive rock bands have emerged that have gained immense popularity among numerous listeners.

Instructions

Step 1

The homeland of many popular rock bands is the Russian cultural capital of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). One of the oldest groups here is Aquarium, founded by the poet and musician Boris Grebenshchikov. The songs of the "Aquarium" group are distinguished by complex lyrics filled with metaphors and the bewitching vocals of BG himself.

Step 2

The Kino group became legendary thanks to the tragic figure of its leader Viktor Tsoi, whose life suddenly ended at the age of 28. The songs of the "Kino" group may seem of the same type and, as it were, monotonous. However, it was precisely in the asceticism of the performance and in the true depth of seemingly simple texts that their appeal lay. In addition, the growth of the group's popularity was facilitated by the participation of Viktor Tsoi in the cult films "Assa" by Sergei Solovyov and "Needle" by Rashid Nugmanov.

Step 3

The DDT group and its constant leader Yuri Shevchuk are an example of a combination of emphatically courageous vocals and virtuoso performance of musical parts. In addition, Shevchuk is distinguished by a pronounced civic position, which is reflected in his songs on public, pacifist and religious themes.

Step 4

The group "Alisa" and its soloist Konstantin Kinchev, who became its main leader after the departure of the main leader, became the idol of the youth of the 80-90s. The protest lyrics of Alisa's songs evoked rejection of the official censorship and the delight of the youth audience.

Step 5

Perhaps the secret beat quartet, whose most famous members were Maxim Leonidov and Nikolai Fomenko, stands out among the Leningrad rock groups. The visual image and musical style of the group evoked associations with The Beatles. At the same time, each of the two brightest participants in "The Secret" brought its own individual principle into its stylistics: Maxim Leonidov - subtle soulful lyricism, Nikolai Fomenko - humor and mischief. Unfortunately, today the stellar line-up of the Secret group gathers only for performances in anniversary concerts.

Step 6

The greatest popularity among the Moscow rock groups was gained by "Time Machine" and its constant leader Andrey Makarevich. The direction of the group's creativity includes elements of classic rock, blues and art songs. The songs "Time Machine" sounded in the films of Alexander Stefanovich "Soul" and "Start over", which, in many respects, contributed to their gaining wide popularity.

Step 7

Resurrection is another of the legendary Moscow rock bands. At the initial stage, her paths very closely intersected with the "Time Machine" group. So, among the participants in the "Resurrection" were Yevgeny Margulis, who later worked in the "Time Machine" and the brother of Andrei Makarevich, Alexey. However, the group managed to achieve its highest rise with the arrival of vocalist Konstantin Nikolsky.

Step 8

One of the most peculiar Russian rock bands is the Bravo group. Her music tends to the style of the 50-60s of the twentieth century. Contrary to the established tradition, the founder and leader of the group Yevgeny Khavtan did not strive to perform vocal parts for a long time. For this reason, Bravo from time to time had difficulties in finding a soloist. The most successful for the group were the periods when Zhanna Aguzarova, who had outstanding vocal abilities, and Valery Syutkin, endowed with poetic talent and great stage charm, worked in it.

Step 9

Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg) rock has also become a distinctive trend in rock music. The group "Nautilus Pompilius" managed to win the greatest popularity here. It is characterized by tough, topical texts with a pronounced social orientation and a rather high voice of the soloist and leader of the group Vyacheslav Butusov.

Step 10

Russian rock is a very versatile and interesting phenomenon. Among its representatives were and are many popular rock bands, each of which has its own face and audience.
