Bruce Springsteen is a legendary American musician and leader of the E Street Band. He is a twenty-time Grammy and two Golden Globes winner. Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" for Philadelphia won an Academy Award for Best Song in 1994.
early years
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949 in the US state of New Jersey. Bruce's parents were poor and had nothing to do with music. His father, Douglas Frederick, was unemployed, sometimes moonlighting as a bus driver. The main breadwinner in the family was his mother, Adele Ann. She worked as a secretary at a law firm. In the family, besides Bruce, there were two younger children: girls Virginia and Pamela.
Bruce decided from childhood that he would become a musician. While studying at school, he was only interested in music, was uncommunicative and withdrawn. The boy came to school with a guitar and played on it in between lessons. The future musician felt uncomfortable among his classmates and did not even go to school prom.
After graduating from high school, Bruce attended Ocean County College but dropped out soon after. As a teenager, Bruce played in several backyard rock bands, one of which was The Castiles. In the early 1970s, the young musician settled in the western area of New York - Greenwich Village, where he began to earn money, performing songs in the style of folk rock. Already in that period of his work, Bruce conquered the audience with his sincerity and simplicity. He sang songs about the joys and sorrows of ordinary Americans and about his home state of New Jersey.
Career
In 1973, Springsteen released his debut album, Greeting from Asbury Park, N. J, and six months later, the next disc, The Wild, the Innocent & the E-Street Shuffle. The discs sold poorly and were not popular, but nevertheless went platinum after the following albums.
In 1974 the musician created his own group - "E-Street Band". In the summer of 1975, the third album by Bruce Springsteen and his band, "Born to Run", was released, which was an overwhelming success and made Springsteen the most popular and commercially successful musician in America.
In 1980, another successful album by the E-Street Band, entitled The River, was released, many of which became world hits (The Ties That Bind, Independence Day, Out in the Street).
In 1984, the album "Born in the U. S. A." was released. This album won a Grammy Award and was nominated for other prestigious awards. The song "Streets of Philadelphia" won an Oscar for the best song of the year, and the album itself was awarded platinum status 10 times. In 1989, the E-Street Band disbanded due to disagreements between the members. Nevertheless, Bruce Springsteen continues his solo career, delighting his fans with new songs.
Personal life
The musician's first wife was actress and model Julianne Phillips. After four years of marriage, the family fell apart.
In 1991 Springsteen married Party Shialfa, backing vocalist for the E-Street Band. The couple had three children - daughter Jessica and sons Evan and Sam.
