The grounds for obtaining Russian citizenship in a simplified manner are set out in Article 14 of the Law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation". In addition, the procedure for obtaining citizenship is also regulated by international agreements. But even if your situation does not fall under the simplified procedure, you can become a citizen of the Russian Federation on a general basis.
Instructions
Step 1
Cross the border of the Russian Federation legally. Register with the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service of Russia at the place of stay in accordance with the established procedure. Detailed information on this issue can be found on the website of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (https://www.fms.gov.ru/useful/novisas/).
Step 2
Get a work permit. You can do this on your own by contacting the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service, or through an organization that officially provides employment to foreign citizens. The procedure for issuing permits is indicated on the website of the FMS of Russia: https://www.fms.gov.ru/documents/withoutvisa/. Get an official job with a salary not lower than the subsistence level established in the region.
Step 3
Apply for a temporary residence permit in the country at the territorial body of the FMS of Russia. It can be obtained for up to three years (more information can be found on the website of the FMS of Russia https://www.fms.gov.ru/documents/temporary/). The presence of a temporary residence permit does not exempt from the need to have a work permit on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Step 4
Live for at least a year on the territory of the Russian Federation under this permit, not forgetting to provide, on time, to the territorial bodies of the FMS certificates confirming that you have official sources of income at a sufficient level.
Step 5
Contact the territorial office of the FMS of Russia at your place of residence in order to obtain a residence permit in the Russian Federation. A residence permit is issued for a period of 5 years, and then it can be extended or an application for Russian citizenship can be applied. The procedure for obtaining a residence permit is described on the website of the FMS of Russia
Step 6
Do not forget during these 5 years also to regularly visit the territorial office of the FMS in order to provide information about your income and information about your residence in the territory of the Russian Federation (you can leave Russia for no more than 6 months), since otherwise the residence permit may be canceled.
Step 7
Contact the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service at your place of residence to obtain citizenship of the Russian Federation. Submit the required documents and wait about a year. After the President of the Russian Federation signs a decree granting you Russian citizenship, you will receive a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation from the Federal Migration Service. Details are provided on the website of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation
