Alexander Lvovich was born in Vyshny Volochok on April 16, 1969. The family was incomplete, only the mother raised the children. She was a doctor.
During his school years, the boy stood out for his sense of humor, knew how to show pantomimes. He studied in a puppet club, then began to participate in productions. In high school, Semchev was a DJ at discos.

After the army, Semchev got a job at the Vyshny Volochok drama theater. Despite his lack of education, he soon became a leading actor and symbol of theater. In one of the plays, Semchev was noticed by the teachers of the Shchukin School and offered to study in the capital. Alexander began his studies on the course of Valentina Nikolaenko.
As a student, Semchev worked at Sovremennik. In 1997 he graduated from the university and began to work in the "Satyricon", where he was noticed by Oleg Efremov. Thanks to him, Alexander got to the Chekhov Theater, where he soon became a leading artist. For his role in the play "White Guard" Semchev received the "Seagull" prize.

In 2006, Alexander Lvovich decided to take up directing, but his film "Girls" was not very successful. Semchev continued filming in films, became popular: "Election Day", "Limousine", "The Last Hero", "Dragon Syndrome", "Liquidation".
Personal life
Alexander Lvovich was married twice. The first wife was Julia Panova, a teacher. They had a son, Cyril. The marriage did not last long, the boy was raised only by his mother. However, Semchev helped them with money. Kirill received the specialty of a manager.
Alexander Lvovich had an affair with Marina Gridetskaya, a bank manager. Then he met Voronova Lyudmila, a costume designer. She became the wife of Semchev, in 2005 they had a boy Fyodor. However, this marriage also ended in divorce.
Semchev participates in the life of his son, communicates with him. Fedor attends an Orthodox gymnasium, is fond of sambo, painting. In 2013, the actor lost weight, as being overweight became the cause of illness.
