Since 2001, the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin has signed the law "On the restriction of tobacco smoking." Its main provisions are to reduce the content of nicotine and tar in the production of tobacco products.

And each pack of cigarettes must contain a warning about the dangers of smoking and information on the exact content of harmful substances in cigarettes. It is forbidden to sell cigarettes by the piece and less than 20 pieces, as well as using vending machines.

It is prohibited to conduct retail trade in tobacco products in cultural, educational, health care organizations, and public authorities. You cannot sell them to underage children. Sale of cigarettes can be carried out at a distance of at least 100 meters from organizations.

Federal executive bodies are obliged to propagandize through the mass media the harm of smoking, including passive smoking. It is forbidden to use photos of girls with cigarettes on billboards. Gradually, it is planned to completely abandon smoking advertising altogether.

Curricula in educational and professional institutions should contain sections against smoking, in which pupils and students will study the harmful effects of smoking on the human body. Demonstration of the process of smoking cigarettes in new films, performances is not allowed, unless it is really impossible to do without it in order to correspond to the artistic intent.

Since 2008, smoking in public places has been banned. It is not allowed to smoke in the premises of institutions, as well as in suburban and city transport. Smoking is prohibited on airplanes if the flight duration is less than three hours. This is considered an administrative violation, for which fines are provided. Each office should have a designated smoking area.
