Vladimir Kosma: from the biography of the composer

Vladimir Cosma was born on April 13, 1940 in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The family was musical: Vladimir's parents, his uncle and grandmother were pianists and composers. In his youth, Cosmas was a fan of classical music. He was not attracted to youth clubs. He could not dance.

Behind the composer is the Bucharest Conservatory and the Boulanger workshop in Paris. Completing his studies in Bucharest, Cosma dreamed of going to Moscow. He hoped that he could learn from Aram Khachaturian and David Oistrakh. But the fate of the Romanian youth was different.

Cosmas moved to the capital of France in 1963. Here he decided to break into the film industry. In cinema, Cosmas began as an arranger for Legrand's music. Michel Legrand, pleased with the work of Vladimir, recommended him as a composer to Yves Robber, who in 1967 selected the musical accompaniment for the film "Blessed Alexander". Yves Robber knew how to find talent and never turned down newcomers who wanted their chance to succeed.

Cosma fondly recalls her years of study in Paris. A young foreign student was awarded a scholarship, which helped him to overcome everyday difficulties in a foreign land. Cosmas confesses that he was raised from childhood on the love of French culture.

A lot of impressions are connected with Vladimir in the salon of Nadia Boulanger, where many famous artists gathered. Cosmas proudly calls herself a student of Boulanger.

The creative path of the composer

Subsequently, Vladimir became a recognized film composer. Cosma is the author of more than one and a half hundred soundtracks for popular films. Among these paintings: "Tall blond in a black boot", "Keep out of sight", "The Adventures of Rabbi Yakov", "Toy", "The Beast", "Trick", "Chameleon". The composer's soundtracks are filled with deep and inspirational expression. You can hear notes of folk motives and jazz in them.

Vladimir Kosma has created three magnificent operas and a number of cantatas. His main work is in one way or another connected with cinematography. Cosma often acted as an actor in episodes of those films for which he composed music (for example: "Diva", "Student", "Boom").

For more than three years, Cosmas worked on the creation of an opera based on the work of Marseille Panola "The Marseillaise Trilogy". The opera was named Marius and Fanny. The premiere took place at the Opera House of Marseille in September 2007.

Vladimir Cosma has created great music screensavers for TF1, France's oldest television. Currently, Cosmas devotes most of his time to composing symphonic suites based on his own melodies.

Cosmas rarely leaves the capital of France, although he dreams of traveling around the world. But creativity for the composer is above all. Music lessons give Vladimir the opportunity to get incomparable pleasure.
