Do you need to clarify the data on your work experience? Or are you composing your family's pedigree? In a word, you need information from the archive. And since it is needed, it should be requested. If you do not have exact information about the place of events, for example, you are investigating the fate of a long-deceased relative whose life path is not completely known to you, send a request to Rosarchiv - the Federal Archival Agency. But if the geography of the search is clear to you, it is better to send your request to the archive of the region in which the events of interest took place.

It is necessary

  • - paper;
  • - a pen;
  • - Postal envelope;
  • - a computer;
  • - internet connection.

Instructions

Step 1

Make an application-request in free form, but be sure to indicate in it: - your name, full postal address, contact phone number and e-mail; - the subject of the request, as well as the period of time to which the information you are interested in relates to; - all the facts that you know about the topic of the request, set out clearly and clearly, using exclusively normative vocabulary; - the form and methods of receiving a response (regular mail, e-mail); - an indication of where you have already contacted on this issue (if any).

Step 2

Send your request to the regional archive you need by Russian Post by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt, or by e-mail. You can, if necessary, check the contact addresses and phone numbers of regional archives on the website of the Federal Archival Agency (Rosarkhiv). The site also has a special form for sending requests directly to Rosarchiv itself.

Step 3

Wait for a response to your request. Any response to socio-legal inquiries must follow, at most, 30 days after the registration of your application. If the deadline for the execution of your request is extended, the archivists will have to notify you of this.

Step 4

Repeat your request if there is no response within 30 days. Perhaps your application just got lost. If no response has been received, ask the archival management body of the region you need why your appeal was ignored.

Step 5

Please be aware that the archive may refuse to provide you with information. But even in this case, within 15 days, archival workers must send you a motivated refusal in writing.

Step 6

Appeal against this refusal if you consider it unlawful by filing a statement with the head of Rosarkhiv, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, or in court. Be sure to attach a copy of the refusal to your application.
