Biography

Vince Carter, whose full name sounds like Vincent Lamar Carter, was born on January 26, 1977 at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida. His parents Vince Carter and Michelle Carter divorced when the boy was seven years old. After that, his mother, a school teacher, remarried to Harry Robinson, also a school teacher.

Young Carter was equally talented in sports and music. Therefore, his mother and stepfather supported his desire for all-round development.

Obsessed with basketball since the age of two, he played among the top players for the Campbell Junior High School basketball team during his school years.

While attending Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, he played alto and saxophone in the school orchestra, led the band as a tambour major, and even wrote one song. In addition, Carter was the captain of the high school volleyball team and led it to the 1994-1995 Florida Class 6A Championship.

After graduating from high school, he entered the University of North Carolina, where he continued to play basketball under the guidance of coach Bill Guthridge. Carter has helped his team win a number of titles in the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament and reach the Final Four twice.

In 1998, he announced his candidacy for the NBA Draft, while continuing his studies at the university. In August 2000, Carter graduated with a degree in African American Studies.
