The future Russian writer and literary critic was born in the capital of the USSR on April 27, 1962. Alexander was brought up by his mother, who worked as a typist on the radio.
Alexander Arkhangelsky received his education at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute, where he studied at the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature. He graduated from the university with success in 1984. Four years later, the young philologist became a candidate of sciences, having defended a dissertation on the lyrics of A. S. Pushkin.

Arkhangelsky began his career in 1980. He worked in the capital's Palace of Pioneers, then in the children's edition of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. Collaborated in the magazines Druzhba Narodov, Voprosy filosofii. Completed an internship at the University of Bremen and at the Free University of Berlin.
