Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin is an American actor who became famous for his performances in the comic duo Cheech and Chong. He became one of the symbols of American comedies in the 70s and 80s. His further film career includes dozens of roles, among which there are real masterpieces.
The comic duo Cheech and Chong existed until 1984 and even won a Grammy for Best Musical Comedy Album. After the collapse of the duo, Cheech Marin took up a film career. His films Once Upon a Time in Mexico, From Dusk Till Dawn, Detective Nash Bridges, Lost, Anger Management and many others are well known not only in America but also far beyond its borders.
Childhood
The boy was born in the summer of 1946 in Los Angeles. The family belonged to immigrants from Mexico, but lived most of their life in America. The boy's father was a police officer, and his mother worked as a secretary, despite a higher education received at one of the prestigious universities.
As a child, the boy spent most of his time on the street, walking with his peers and listening to local musicians, gradually getting carried away by their work. Soon he decided to create his own rap group. Writing lyrics, he gathered friends around him, with whom he began to record his first songs on tape cassettes. Gradually, his poems began to be more and more humorous, and soon he realized that he did not like music more, but the texts, which completely formed the scripts for public appearances.
Cheech soon began performing in local clubs in Los Angeles, and after moving to Vancouver in the wake of the Vietnam War. There he met his future partner Tommy Chong, with whom they created the humorous duet "Cheech and Chong", which became popular in America and Canada.
Film career
The famous duo existed for quite a long time and, in addition to working on stage, began to try themselves in films. Their first picture was called "The Stoned", which received great success not only in the country, but also abroad.
The producers, seeing the great success of the duo, decided to continue making films with their participation. Soon, the sequels of the franchise appear on the screens, which have become no less popular than the first film. But by the mid-80s, the topic of hippies and "stoned" was gradually fading into the background and new heroes appeared who clearly did not fit the images created by Cheech and Chong. Their last film together was the picture "After Work" and, starting in the late 80s, they stopped performing together.
Cheech continued his acting career and creative biography alone. He receives many offers from producers and directors and over the years has starred in leading and episodic roles in dozens of films, including: "Ghostbusters", "Deadly Beauty", "Born in Los Angeles" and many others.
In addition to working in the cinema, the actor was engaged in dubbing cartoons, including the famous "The Lion King", and filming in television projects. One of the most famous TV series of those years was "Detective Nash Bridges", where Cheech played one of the main roles along with actor Don Johnson.
His subsequent works were very diverse. Cheech played in action films, comedies, thrillers, among which were the cult films of famous directors, such as: "Desperate", "Spy Kids", "From Dusk Till Dawn", "Tin Cup", "Machete", and famous TV series: " Stay Alive”and“Grey's Anatomy”.
Personal life
The actor tied the knot three times.
The first wife - actress Darlene, worked at the studio, where Cheech met her and invited her to a cameo role in the movie "The Stoned". Their marriage lasted almost 10 years. The actor has a child from this marriage.
The second wife is Patti Heid, she was an artist. They lived together until 2009, during which time Patty gave birth to two children.
Soon Chicha had a third wife - pianist Natasha Rubin. Their relationship continues today.
