Shesterkin Igor Olegovich - Russian hockey goalkeeper. At 22, he plays for one of the strongest teams in the KHL, and has repeatedly become a champion. In 2018, he became an Olympic champion as part of the Russian national team.
Biography
Igor Shesterkin was born on the penultimate day of 1995, December 30, in the city of Moscow. The boy did not aspire to play hockey, moreover, he became one by accident. Once his friend invited him to watch one of the games of the local hockey section. The game impressed young Shesterkin so much that he decided to quit boring swimming and go to hockey. Igor got his first hockey experience at the Moscow school of HC Krylya Sovetov. He also began to play for them at the level of youth teams.
Career
In the Kontinental Hockey League draft in early 2012, the management of the Moscow club "Spartak" drew attention to the promising goalkeeper. Having received the 31st number in the second round, he was declared in the youth team of the Red-Whites. In general, Shesterkin played 13 matches for the juniors. For the main team, he got into the application only in February 2013, but he never appeared on the ice.
A full-fledged debut took place on the 27th of the same month. As part of the tournament "Cup of Hope 2013", in the quarterfinal match against Minsk "Dynamo". The game of the main goalkeeper did not go well, and after two conceded goals in two minutes he was replaced by Igor Shesterkin. For the remaining 48 minutes of the match, the talented goalkeeper was able to reflect 18 of 19 shots.
In June 2014, Igor moved to SKA in the northern capital, in November of the same year he made his ice debut. In the same year, he managed to play several matches for SKA-Karelia in the VHL and for the youth SKA-1946. Shesterkin became a full-fledged goalkeeper of the main team of the army club, firmly entrenched in it, only in 2016. He set a record of 272 minutes and did not concede a single goal for 8 seconds. Currently he continues to play for the St. Petersburg team.
National team
For the first time, a young, but already famous hockey player was announced for the Russian national team in 2016 at the World Championship, but never appeared on the ice. The goal of the national team at that tournament was defended by Sergei Bobrovsky. Nevertheless, Shesterkin became the bronze medalist at the end of the tournament.
The debut in the senior team took place in 2016, as part of the Karjala Cup. At the tournament, the team played in an experimental mode, many players received a call to the national team for the first time. Igor Shesterkin stood in the frame of the goal for all three matches. At the end of the tournament, the team scored 100% of the points, took first place and received gold medals.
In 2018, at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Igor won gold as a member of the ice hockey team. Due to the long-term doping scandal, the roots of which stretch back to the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the Russian national team was not allowed to play in 2018. Personal life
Today Igor lives in St. Petersburg and gives all his strength to his beloved, real men's sport - hockey. This charming and talented young goalkeeper is an enviable groom, but he is not in a hurry to start a family with someone, and he does not like to talk about himself too much. There were rumors about his connection with the participant of "Dom-2" Tatyana Okhulkova, but they were not confirmed, the girl just tried to attract Igor's attention, and now she has a friend.
