Alexei Uchitel, People's Artist of the Russian Federation and Artistic Director of the Rock Film Studio, began with documentary films, like his famous father, documentary filmmaker Efim Yulievich. Alexey was born in 1951 in Leningrad. From an early age he was with his father on the set, and when he grew up, he began to study in the creative cinema workshop at the Palace of Pioneers, where he studied photography and cinema. Therefore, he knew from childhood that he would become a director, like his father.
Thanks to his initial experience, he understood that in order to make a movie, you need to know all the stages in this matter. Therefore, after school I went to VGIK to study not directing, but operator. He entered, however, the second time, but still became a student at VGIK.
Film career
After graduating from high school, Aleksey works in a documentary film studio, and in 1977 his first picture, "One Hundred Thousand" I ", was released. Now the documentary film occupies the most important place in his biography.
In 1986, he shot a unique film "Rock", in which he showed footage from the life of rock musicians of those years. He filmed Boris Grebenshchikov, Viktor Tsoi, Yuri Shevchuk and others. There are no more similar films of this level about those years.
The next professional work of the director is the documentary "Obvodny Canal". Here he spoke about a variety of institutions that are located on both sides of the canal: palaces of culture, insane asylums, the theological academy. Everything is so fancifully combined in a person's life.
In those years, the Teacher became as famous as his father, but he decided to go further - into the niche of fiction films. Moreover, all the conditions were met for this: during the filming of the film about the ballerina Olga Spesivtseva, the main character herself dies, and there is not enough documentary material. Then he completely changes the concept and shoots the feature film "Giselle's Mania". The painting was awarded prestigious awards in Russia and abroad.
The next film, His Wife's Diary, won the Kinotavr Grand Prix and three Nika awards. Following this, the director releases one after another films that receive wide recognition from viewers and critics: "Walk", "Space as a Presentiment", "Captive". The latter picture caused fierce controversy among critics, however, as did the film "Matilda", which some zealous guardians of morality demanded to be banned.
Apparently, the director's films raise such questions that are inconvenient for those who want to embellish history, and at the same time our reality.
Personal life
For more than thirty years, Alexey Uchitel has been married to producer Kira Saksaganskaya. Now the spouses do not live together, but they have not filed a divorce.
The couple have three children: the eldest son Ilya became a director, daughters Anna and Maria are schoolgirls. Kira Saksaganskaya works in her husband's studio.
According to unofficial data, Alexei Efimovich is now together with actress Yulia Peresild. She has already starred in two of his films.
