The future racer was born on August 5, 1968 in the family of a five-time British rally champion. Parents lived in the Scottish town of Lanark. Colin's grandfather kept his car workshop. The little boy spent all his free time here. He diligently assisted the elders in repairing damaged cars. I have always worked diligently. In fact, it was a real education, which was useful to McRae in the future. Already at the age of seven he was presented with a motorcycle. When the guy turned fourteen, he won the first tournament in his career as a motorcycle racer.
Tournaments and victories
In 1985, McRae switched from motorcycle to automobile. To participate in the first competition, he had to ask a friend for a car. The debut was unsuccessful. On a simple track, a young racer managed to pull over to the side of the road. As a result, the crew was in fourteenth place. The next season at the Scottish Championship, Colin did not repeat his mistake, and came to the finish line in the top ten. This was a serious claim for subsequent success. He immediately got the nickname "Flying Brick". To get better results on races, you need to have a reliable car with a tuned engine.
To quickly repair the racing car, McRae's team had to staff a mobile service station. An old van was adapted for the mechanics' workshop. In 1990, Colin finished third in the UK Championship, driving a Subaru-branded car. After this victory, eminent rivals began to treat him with respect and apprehension. After numerous victories on various tracks, 1999 McRae received a worthy offer. He signed a contract with the Ford team.
Personal life and death
The famous racer devoted all his time and energy to his favorite pastime. Even Colin met his future wife at a competition. Alice Hamilton was the navigator in the rivals' crew. The future husband and wife did not seek a compromise. This fact did not prevent them from arranging their personal life. Alice and Colin got married.
In September 2007, Colin McRae died in a plane crash. He lost control of his own helicopter while landing. A six-year-old son died with him.
